DC Mayor Muriel Bowser will not seek reelection

WASHINGTON — Mayor Muriel Bowser, 11 years after she was first elected, announced Tuesday that she will not be running for a fourth term.
With a year left before the next mayoral election in D.C., her choice clears the way for what could be a highly competitive race.
She's celebrated a win recently, securing a deal to bring the Washington Commanders back to the District. After Congress gave control of the RFK Stadium site back to D.C., she helped charter the plan to redesign the stadium as a major entertainment hub.
During President Donald Trump's first term, she strongly resisted against him. But throughout the first year of his second term, she has been much less vocal in her criticisms and publicly worked with him, with a few clashes, as he required federal workers to return to offices in-person and later when he deployed the National Guard to the District and took over the city's police department for 30 days.
