President Donald Trump threatened on Tuesday that he would not support Republicans who refuse to go along with his election scheme during the 2026 midterm.
One of the ways Trump is seeking to sway the 2026 midterm in his favor is by pressuring state legislatures to undergo mid-cycle redistricting, which allows them to redraw their congressional maps.
The Texas legislature was the first to redraw its maps, which sparked backlash from Democratic-controlled states like California and Maryland.
Recently, Indiana Republicans announced that they would take up the redistricting issue during their next session. The announcement comes about a month after the state legislature failed to pass a new election map because some Republicans did not vote for the measure. Trump responded to the news in a new Truth Social post.

(37,195 posts)Will the Republicans finally figure out how hollow his words are? We shall see!
Theres at least two reasons why this is a stupid proposition. Many legislative seats at the state level only have a few thousand voters and its certain that the targeted legislators already know the majority of who could possibly try and primary them. Also, its pretty clear that Tantrum Tito cant finish a round of golf these days without someone throwing a ball down for him. Thats a whole lot of balls to sway an entire state legislature and he would have to chase all of them from start to finish. Hes far too lazy and cheap to follow through on more than 1% of them.

(705 posts)and easier to defeat by a well funded Democrat. (And those who think it's "fun" and "essential" to primary an incumbent Democrat for reasons of purity need to think twice... because the same axiom applies to Democrats too.)
Trump is interested in PUNISHING his own party for not being pure-enough... we should learn from their mistakes. We should put our time, efforts and money (what little we have) into defeating Republicans --- especially the wounded and vulnerable ones.
