'Nobody will ever believe it': James Comer airs doubts about his own Epstein investigation

Without James Comers House investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, the world might never have seen the birthday book full of lewd materials or the trove of more than 20,000 documents elucidating the late convicted sex offenders dealings with global power players including President Donald Trump.
It would have been a career-defining triumph for any House Oversight Committee chair. But not for Comer, who expressed deep ambivalence about the ongoing probe in a recent interview.
That reflects the complicated and unpredictable fallout from the Epstein saga, which has helped derail the Republican congressional agenda and the opening year of Trumps second term. It could also have implications for Comers own political ambitions given his own belief that Americans minds might well be impervious to his panels conclusions. I fear the report will be like the Warren Report, he said. Nobody will ever believe it.
Comers reference to the 1964 report on the assassination of President John F. Kennedy led by Chief Justice Earl Warren underscores how the Epstein case has enthralled legions of skeptics who say the federal government is intent on protecting powerful men involved in the exploitation of young women and girls.

The "Masters of Conspiracy Theories", who fed QAnon, are finding it has come back to haunt. He prefers to originate is own nonsensical CT to "own the libs" through bogus "investigations".

(18,488 posts)But it is too late now, you've spent your whole life being a dishonest piece of shit. That concrete has long since cured.
Release your report anyway, quit stalling. The honest among us will point out where you fucked up and where you stopped-clocked it.

For those who have bought into the most elaborate conspiracy theories, nothing he could establish would be enough. Even if not one additional fact was revealed, enough has been reviled to show disturbing elements in our elite culture.
Here is a short list:
1) Even as law enforcement closed in on Epstein in Florida investigating reports that he was having sex with underage girls, many had to have approved that sweetheart deal, that in addition to being an incredibly weak sentence, charged him with only a very small part of what could have been proven. This meant that though he was a registered sex offender, I think he was only charged with statutory rape. ( Consider it is crazy to say only, but the reality was he raped many underage girls against their wishes.)
2. After he was released from prison, many important people socialized with him. (Part of this .. until the Miami Herald article.. might be something these people explain as someone who served his sentence.) In looking at these contacts from his emails, I wish I had a timeline explaining what was common knowledge at each point in time.
3. Maxwell's trial and conviction and the Miami Herald articles may have been when the story was not just that Epstein was a sex offender, but he and Maxwell ran a nightmare operation where both participated in raping girls. That Trump improved her prison situation should have met with stronger condemnation.
4. From both the victims' accounts and that trial, it seems clear that the sexual abuse was also done by many people, the full list of which is not yet known. Here, the DOJ files might have names of people accused. Although DOJ did not charge anyone, a good question would be were there people Maureen Comey and others were investigating. Those investigations should be restarted.
