Pentagon readies 1,500 soldiers to possibly deploy to Minnesota, Washington Post reports

Source: https://www.reuters.com/world/us/pentagon-readies-1500-soldiers-possibly-deploy-minnesota-washington-post-reports-2026-01-18/

Jan 18 (Reuters) - The Pentagon has ordered about 1,500 active-duty U.S. soldiers to prepare for a possible deployment to Minnesota, the site of widespread protests against the government's deportation drive, the Washington Post reported on Sunday.
The army placed the units on prepare-to-deploy orders in case violence in the state escalates, the newspaper said, citing unnamed defense officials, adding that it is not clear whether any of them will be sent.

The Pentagon and the White House did not immediately respond to requests from Reuters for comment.
President Donald Trump threatened on Thursday to use the Insurrection Act to deploy military forces if officials in the state do not stop protesters from targeting immigration officials after a surge in Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents.
Tensions are high in Minneapolis, Minnesota's most-populous city, after an ICE agent shot Renee Good dead on January 7.
"If the corrupt politicians of Minnesota don’t obey the law and stop the professional agitators and insurrectionists from attacking the Patriots of I.C.E., who are only trying to do their job, I will institute the INSURRECTION ACT," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post on Thursday.

The soldiers subject to deployment are assigned to two U.S. Army infantry battalions under the 11th Airborne Division, which is based in Alaska, the Post reported.

The Insurrection Act is a federal law that gives the president the power to deploy the military or federalize National Guard troops inside the U.S. to quell domestic uprisings.

Strangely enough, Fort Drum is colder than any US Army Alaska (USARAK) base and gets four times the snow, thanks to the Great Lakes.

True story: when I was stationed there we got a new commanding general whose previous assignment was USARAK. There’s a point on the thermometer where the division regulations require morning Physical Training be done indoors - you can use the unit barracks common areas, the motor pool bays or the post gym if you can get in. This idiot general proclaimed that it’s never too cold to train outside. After 15 percent of the division came down with third degree frostbite phone calls were made and the last was between General Disaster and the Surgeon General of the Army telling him to put the reg back where it was.

Trust me on this: King Donald and Otis Campbell aren’t using this unit because they come from a cold weather environment. They picked 11th Airborne because “paratrooper” sounds to them like the scariest people on earth.

Fort Drum can get. That is a very interesting statistic and anecdote.

Paratroopers don't usually land inside of cities. Large buildings, electric and phone lines, and moving traffic are dangerous obstacles. They would have to drop outside the city, or at an open airport runway. Their scariness would have minimal impact since the majority of Minnesota wouldn't see them dropping.

But Hegseth and Trump don't know that.

They've got even fewer LE powers than ICE.

We actually don't actually HAVE a mechanism in place to police ICE, I'm sure it never occurred to previous administrations we might need someone to police the feds. National Guardsmen are most certainly not qualified, trained, or legally entitled to do so though. They can enact crowd control, protect buildings and assets, direct traffic, erect barriers, etc. but they can't just start arresting federal officers.

Lay down, roll over. People are being exposed to chemicals banned for use by American officers. Americans are being picked up off of the streets and disappeared! Officers are kneeling on heads and necks and causing extreme damage to innocent people. They are lead by immoral people who do not follow the law# of this country! What is your answer!!!

Sun Jan 18, 2026, 10:48 AM

The Pentagon has announced that 1,500 – 2,000 US active duty soldiers are now on alert for deployment to Minnesota.

I doubt it. These troops are coming from Fort Wainwright, ALASKA — they are Arctic-trained units. I suspect they will be deployed to Pituffik Space Base (formerly Thule Air Base) as the initial phase of the US war on Greenland and Denmark.

No doubt Putin and Xi are delighted to see Trump tearing NATO apart.

Meanwhile, Jared Kushner is now one of the US reps to a delegation that will, no doubt, bring everlasting peace to Israel-Gaza. Or maybe he’s there to arrange Trump’s purchase of ocean front property in Gaza.

As of this moment, they have not received or heard anything official from the Feds.

I think these troops are headed to Greenland. Any talk of Minneapolis is a poor attempt at a feint or a misdirect.

DOJ is due in court on Monday and they had a bunch of their prosecutors resign.

So, any MSM news article should really be viewed with a jaundiced eye. With billionaires as owners, they’re on the side of the fascists.

Troops from Fort Wainwright, Alaska, are trained and equipped for Arctic operations. They are going to Greenland, to the US air base -- formerly Thule AB, now Pituffik AB.

And how do I know?

Because Trump tipped his hand yesterday.

We have subsidized Denmark, and all of the Countries of the European Union, and others, for many years by not charging them Tariffs, or any other forms of remuneration. Now, after Centuries, it is time for Denmark to give back — World Peace is at stake! China and Russia want Greenland, and there is not a thing that Denmark can do about it. They currently have two dogsleds as protection, one added recently. Only the United States of America, under PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP, can play in this game, and very successfully, at that! Nobody will touch this sacred piece of Land, especially since the National Security of the United States, and the World at large, is at stake. On top of everything else, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland have journeyed to Greenland, for purposes unknown. This is a very dangerous situation for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Planet. These Countries, who are playing this very dangerous game, have put a level of risk in play that is not tenable or sustainable. Therefore, it is imperative that, in order to protect Global Peace and Security, strong measures be taken so that this potentially perilous situation end quickly, and without question. Starting on February 1st, 2026, all of the above mentioned Countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, The United Kingdom, The Netherlands, and Finland), will be charged a 10% Tariff on any and all goods sent to the United States of America. On June 1st, 2026, the Tariff will be increased to 25%. This Tariff will be due and payable until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland. The United States has been trying to do this transaction for over 150 years. Many Presidents have tried, and for good reason, but Denmark has always refused. Now, because of The Golden Dome, and Modern Day Weapons Systems, both Offensive and Defensive, the need to ACQUIRE is especially important. Hundreds of Billions of Dollars are currently being spent on Security Programs having to do with “The Dome,” including for the possible protection of Canada, and this very brilliant, but highly complex system can only work at its maximum potential and efficiency, because of angles, metes, and bounds, if this Land is included in it. The United States of America is immediately open to negotiation with Denmark and/or any of these Countries that have put so much at risk, despite all that we have done for them, including maximum protection, over so many decades. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

DONALD J. TRUMP
PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

37. Isn't this against the posse comitatus law to not use military troops against American citizens?
Sun Jan 18, 2026, 05:40 PM

The Posse Comitatus Act bars federal troops from participating in civilian law enforcement except when expressly authorized by law. This nearly 150-year-old law embodies an American tradition that sees military interference in civilian affairs as a threat to both democracy and personal liberty. However, recent events have revealed dangerous gaps in the law’s coverage that Congress must address. Brennan center interpretation

The Posse Comitatus Act is a federal law that limits the use of federal military personnel to enforce domestic policies within the United States. It was enacted in 1878 after the end of Reconstruction and expanded to cover the Air Force in 1956 and the Navy, Marine Corps, and Space Force in 2021. Wikipedia definition
