More than 10 countries have signed on to Trump's "Board of Peace," sources say

Source: CBS News

Updated on: January 20, 2026 / 12:33 PM EST / CBS News

Washington — More than 10 countries have signed on to join President Trump's "Board of Peace" for Gaza, sources familiar with the discussions told CBS News, though only five — United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Morocco, Hungary and Canada — have publicly accepted his invitation to join.

As the president envisions it, the group would comprise world leaders, with him as its chairman. Countries can contribute $1 billion to become permanent members, rather than holding a typical three-year membership, the White House said, although Canada has said it won't pay to join. Some countries will contribute far less, possibly around $20 million, one of the sources said.

A White House official told CBS News over the weekend that "virtually every dollar" raised would be spent on the board's mandate in Gaza. Fundraising to rebuild Gaza will be a separate effort, one U.S. official said.

Another U.S. official told CBS News that the president wants a signing ceremony for the board at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, and has been contemplating whether the board's work should extend beyond Gaza, and perhaps be a rival to the United Nations.

How is Newsom (and knee pads) relevant?

I mean, I know the general insinuation with knee pads of course, but

Look at what was written that I responded to, and imagine you have not heard of the PARTICULAR, recent Newsom knee pad joke in any way, as I had not.

"Looks like Newsom should have brought those knee pads with him."

Not only was I *specifically* clear that I understand a "knee pad" reference generally, but you'll notice that the post I'm responding to doesn't make clear WHO is to be wearing the knee pads. It was therefore plausible that the implication was that Newsom might be wearing them, since I was unaware of the STORY or CONTEXT in the first place.

Do you follow now, buddy?

BTW, I'm around 60, thank you very much

So, billions of dollars for the 'board's mandate' (can't wait to see who pockets THAT!). Future fundraising for rebuilding Gaza (rebuilding for WHO, the displaced Palestinians, or for the FUNDRAISERS???)
Bibi is pissed off that trump got ahead of him on this giant heist!
