Social media is buzzing with rumors that Immigration and Customs Enforcement plans to ramp up operations in Philadelphia and many users are responding with a defiant good luck.
In recent days, posts on TikTok and X have spread claims that Philadelphia could become the next Democratic-led city targeted for an immigration crackdown by President Donald Trumps administration.
But many locals were quick to remind outsiders that the City of Brotherly Love doesnt always live up to its nickname with some joking that Philadelphians are known to riot even when their sports teams win. Philly people are a different breed, wrote one user, while another added: Bro ice is going to be protesting.
The speculation comes one year into Trumps second term, during which he has significantly intensified immigration enforcement across the nation, following his promise to carry out the largest deportation program in American history.

Oh they have been around Philly included right near where I live, where I saw 2 pickups, a bunch of SUVs a couple sedans, and what had to have been at least 10 black vested guys go into a house.
My State Senator has been holding a vigil with a number of religious leaders, downtown in front of the building where ICE has an office at 8th & Cherry (on the edge of Chinatown). They have been out there every day. The group was able to block the driveway from the building for like 2 hours I think today (according to news reports) before the cops moved the crowd aside to let the ICE folks out today.

(166,385 posts)People have oddly disconnected this city from the founding of this nation!
It's like the twilight zone. I drove by that building almost every day going to/from work for over 30 years!

(166,385 posts)Until recently, they were still debating over where to put the statue (there is a replica statue that actually belongs to Stallone that gets moved around). The original (from one of the movies) has been at the base of the steps (with a later tourist structure and then without that and its own fencing) for years. I drove back and forth to work by that every day.
They had a replica at the top of steps for some events. Now the one at the base is moving to the top of the steps (after it spends some time inside the museum with the replica outside and then goes back out to the top of the steps, with another replica supposedly to be installed at the airport). More about all this here - https://www.phillyvoice.com/rocky-statue-move-philadelphia-art-museums-steps/

As a note, I have seen not one Rocky movie.

(166,385 posts)I was at this particular show in the video below on the side of the arena seen behind him but further down near the center of that side on the first row off the floor seats -
That song came out after his original "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" release and around when he was doing his "Captain Fantastic" album (released just after).
