The top Democrats on the House Judiciary and Oversight and Government Reform committees have requested a visit to the prison where Ghislaine Maxwell is being held, alleging preferential treatment toward Maxwell and a cover-up of sexual abuse at the facility. Reps. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) and Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) made the demands in a letter to the Department of Justice (DOJ) on Thursday, which was shared by The New York Times.
Maxwell, the long-time co-conspirator and former girlfriend of the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, is serving out her sentence in Bryan Federal Prison Camp in Texas. Attorney General Pam Bondi quietly authorized Maxwells transfer to the lower-security prison last year.
Democrats have criticized this decision, alleging a deal was struck to keep Maxwell from sharing information that would connect President Trump to Epsteins sex trafficking. The DOJ and the Trump administration have repeatedly denied the president was involved in these activities.
While your Department of Justice coddles Ghislaine Maxwell, a convicted child sex trafficker and Jeffrey Epsteins co-conspirator, to support your cover-up by President Trump, we are receiving troubling reports that the same federal law enforcement officials who showered Ms. Maxwell with preferential treatment and perks may also be covering up serious sexual abuse in that same facility, in plain violation of the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) and federal criminal law, Garcia and Raskin wrote.
