GOP senator 'defects' from Trump over 'incredibly disturbing' shooting

At least one Republican senator is calling for a full investigation into the incident that led to the death of an ICU nurse by DHS immigration agents.
After the death of Alex Pretti, who appears to have been shot by agents after being disarmed while carrying a concealed weapon, one GOP lawmaker had some strong words for the "credibility" of the GOP-priority agencies.
U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. chimed in, "The events in Minneapolis are incredibly disturbing."
"The credibility of ICE and DHS are at stake," he added Sunday. "There must be a full joint federal and state investigation. We can trust the American people with the truth." The centrists over at Maverick replied with, "Republicans are defecting."

Full investigation? WTF, the murder is on video, and where is the victim's phone for evidence?

(23,453 posts)Bill Cassidy was the deciding vote on RFK Jr.'s nomination, and he eventually supported the nomination after saying that RFK Jr. had assured him privately that he wasn't going to do anything wacky with vaccines. Fast forward a year, and not only has brainworm boy caused a measles outbreak, and is suggesting that we don't need polio vaccines, but Trump has endorsed a primary challenger to Cassidy, and MAHA PAC is funding that challenger.
Cassidy has already been humiliated; he has no reason to toe the GOP line on this. Thom Tillis -- who is retiring and not seeking re-election this year -- has also spoken out.
It's easy to dismiss this as the bleatings of irrelevant losers -- because in a lot of ways, that's exactly what it is -- but IMO every crack in Trump's dam is a positive. It only takes a few GOP senators siding with Democrats to create that good old-fashioned "bipartisanship" mainstream media is always so thirsty for, and if it looks like the GOP is not lined up squarely behind Trump, then the story becomes "Republicans in disarray over ICE murders," and the cracks will continue to grow.
PS. I make no apologies for the spectacular mixed metaphor in my subject line

(5,309 posts)The Republican 'majority' in the house is by such a slim margin, that a couple of defectors topples it.
And trump getting his way by threatening to primary every member who refuses to drink the koolaid will only go so far; they will realize their political futures are doomed either way.
