U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers detained four people Monday morning at the Douglas County Courthouse in downtown Omaha.
Three of the four detained by the agents were at the courthouse making appearances after being charged with driving under the influence, Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson said. The fourth person detained had been charged with hit-and-run and driving under a suspended license, Hanson said. He estimated ICE officers arrested the four sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. The sheriff said ICE officers detained two people in two separate courtrooms while officers detained two others in the courthouses rotunda.
Criminal defense attorney Robert Larsen was in court Monday morning representing one of the men charged with driving under the influence. After he and a Douglas County prosecutor gathered in front of the courtroom to discuss potential plea deals, Larsen turned around to go back to the defense table where his client was sitting but his client wasnt there.
I figured he had gone to the bathroom or stepped out to take a call or something, Larsen said.
