HHS staffers call for halt to ICE, CBP operations after VA nurse's 'execution'

A coalition of current and former Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) employees is calling on Congress to freeze funding for federal immigration enforcement operations after what they describe as the "execution" of a Veterans Affairs nurse who was protesting the Trump administration's immigration crackdown in Minneapolis.

In a public letter released Monday, the group Save HHS said its members were “deeply shaken” by the death of 37-year-old Alex Pretti — who was fatally shot on Saturday while being apprehended by federal officers.


The letter accuses the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of creating a “growing public health crisis” through acts of violence, alleging that DHS agents are "murdering, assaulting, and terrorizing people who call this country home."

The employees urged lawmakers to block this week’s must-pass appropriations bills from funding ICE and CBP unless the agencies:

Immediately halt the invasion of American cities,

submit to independent investigations, and

adopt new protocols that do not violate the Constitution.

The U.S. Republicans in the Senate had a chance TWICE, and refused to do it........Fuck every single one of them all the way to hell......along with all the U.S. Republican House Members, and every single Republican Supreme Court Justice.......

Trump couldn't have stayed in power a day into his first term, without every single one of them enabling him.......daily.

3. They're right. It's an expanding public health crisis from several directions and for several reasons

When the entire population is being terrorized in a country with ridiculously paltry mental health, child health and maternal health plus preventive and supportive healthcare systems like drugs, rehab, community outreach programs. This errodes support for all populations from all.

Systems which could be overflowing with funds for care are instead being destroyed. While they take our funds, over fund the agency creating and exacerbating the dangers that threaten life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness creating a pervasive public health crisis.

Pitting one need of a citizenry against the other creates unnecessary competitiveness and destroys community cohesiveness and creates a sick society.
