US Consumer Confidence Plummets to Lowest Level Since 2014

Source: Bloomberg News

US consumer confidence declined in January to the lowest level in more than a decade on more pessimistic views of the economy and labor market.

The Conference Board’s gauge decreased to 84.5, from an upwardly revised 94.2 last month, data out Tuesday showed. The figure was the lowest since May 2014 and fell short of all estimates in a Bloomberg survey of economists.

A measure of expectations for the next six months fell in January to the lowest since April, while a gauge of present conditions dropped to the lowest in nearly five years.

“The expectations index has greatly overstated the weakness in spending in recent quarters,” Oliver Allen, senior US economist at Pantheon Macroeconomics, said in a note. “But we’d be surprised if its recent deterioration proves to be an entirely false signal, particularly given the recent stagnation in real incomes and the already rock-bottom personal saving rate.”

As much as the administration and certain media outlets try to portray that everything is peachy, the reality is that consumers know they are paying a lot more for almost everything.

He'll insist that it's the "corrupt media" and the "terrorist left" that are making things seem bad.

...to damage Trump et. al. and have businesses put pressure on him against all the stupid negative policies he has put in place. GOP legislators will feel the same when their home state interests starts seeing less revenues. Already happening as foreigners stop buying US products and services and will be compounded if we at home start doing the same. Unfortunately that means some of our friends and neighbors jobs will be on the line as businesses and the economy slows.

so I just concentrate on household items buy in bulk for some. Lots of computer searches to find things I wanted pre-tariff. Even TEMU's cheap shit gets a pass. I source things from overseas vendors and even they are losing out. Things not made here, even those US trades that sell this stuff is taking a beating. (Historical reproduced items)

I swear, grocery prices are not going down. Keep in mind that the people who help produce our groceries are being deported in record numbers. Are we winning yet?
