Durbin rips Vance over Duckworth insult: 'Low and beneath the dignity' of a vice

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) criticized Vice President Vance Thursday morning, calling comments he made about the other senator from Illinois, Tammy Duckworth (D), “low.”

“I have learned over many years in office that politics ain’t beanbag. But JD Vance’s attack and insult of my colleague, Tammy Duckworth, is low and beneath the dignity of a Vice President,” Durbin said in a post on social platform X.

On Wednesday, Duckworth slammed Vance after the vice president bashed her line of questioning at a Senate hearing. He compared her to the fictional character Forrest Gump, who was portrayed as having a physical and intellectual disability.

“Forrest Gump ran toward danger in Vietnam. Your boss ran to his podiatrist crying bone spurs,” Duckworth wrote on X, noting President Trump’s medical draft deferments.

Senator Duckworth flew Blackhawk helicopters in Iraq, was trying to extract wounded when her helicopter was shot down -- she lost both legs and some use of one arm.
