Late night host Jimmy Kimmel will be headlining an upcoming fundraiser for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, according to an invitation to the event shared by MS NOW contributor Teddy Schleifer.
Kimmel, along with fellow late night hosts like Stephen Colbert, has been a target of criticism from President Donald Trump, including threats of some sort of intervention from the Federal Communications Commission and calls for him to be fired. Thus far, Kimmel has managed to shrug off the attacks from the White House, other than a brief suspension that arguably raised his profile in anti-Trump circles, and just signed a contract extension with ABC last December.
On Tuesday, Schleifer shared a screenshot of the invitation to a fundraiser for the DCCC scheduled for the evening of March 10 in Los Angeles.
According to the invitation, Kimmel will be a Special Guest at the event, along with headliners Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). Also listed among the ambassadors, Democratic donors, and other politicos on the host committee is Shonda Rhimes, the television producer behind popular series including Greys Anatomy and Bridgerton.

(5,595 posts)will ever have a fundraiser with great guests that we proles can afford. I wouldn't grip about this so much if I knew a lot of the money wasn't going to pay the same political consultants who have eaten up huge amounts of money while giving very bad advice.

It's a big club, and we ain't in it.

(167,723 posts)a billion emails/texts for $5 as part of fundraising to support the DCCC, DSCC, and/or some (D) candidate?
(Newsflash - once the 2010 Citizen's United SCOTUS ruling destroyed the meat of campaign finance regulation by overturning "McCain-Feingold", where neither Senator bothered to revise their bill to address the SCOTUS complaints, then massive amounts of money are now needed FROM ALL INCOME LEVELS OF THE POPULACE in order to compete today - at least to compete at the "national level" )

(167,723 posts)There needs to be a better way but that Citizen's United thing needs to be rectified. Otherwise we'll always be at a disadvantage when you have a single douchebag alone like Muskrat, pumping 1/4 $BILLION into a Presidential election. That forces us to have to go to BOTH big donors and small.

(7,295 posts)I never fully realized until now that we do constitute a power. Much of our power has been unrealized, but it is there.
I saw it in Minneapolis. I am seeing it in the Epstein files reaction.
I am also seeing how bad government by dictatorship or elites can be.
Before I saw democracy as my preferred form of government, now I am seeing that a true democracy is going to be necessary for the human race to continue.
