Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's ex-president who said 'Israel must be wiped off the map,' killed in Israeli airstrikes
Source: California Post
Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad a polarizing hardliner who became the face of Tehrans nuclear defiance and incendiary anti-Israel rhetoric was reportedly killed in Israeli airstrikes at the outset of the military operation inside Iran.
A report by the Israeli media outlet Maariv stated that Ahmadinejad was under house arrest at the time and was killed in a targeted strike on his residence.
Ahmadinejad served as Irans sixth president from 2005 to 2013, rising from relative obscurity as mayor of Tehran to defeat establishment figure Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in a surprise 2005 runoff.
His disputed 2009 reelection triggered the mass Green Movement protests, which were violently suppressed by security forces in one of the most serious internal crises of the Islamic Republic.

(22,170 posts)I remember when he was the president of Iran.
He seemed very controversial to me.

(7,367 posts)Apparently there's controversy on the claim. Several hostages said he was there. CIA says he "likely wasn't".
so it falls in the the "who knows" for sure category.

(51,088 posts)it sounds like something he would boast about openly but hasn't. So maybe he wasn't involved.

Just saying.

The odd sources are Turkish sites, Indian media etc......
Who knows?
The Iranian news agency ILNA had previously reported that the 69-year-old had been killed in an air raid in Tehran. The agency said he was killed at his home in eastern Tehran along with his bodyguard,
It was not initially possible to independently verify which of the two statements was correct.
"Dolate Bahar hereby announces that the reports about the martyrdom of Dr Ahmadinejad in the American-Israeli attacks are false," it said in a statement on the party's website.
