The lead organizer of Gun Appreciation Day, gun-rights backers’ most prominent public effort to fight off gun-control legislation, helps run a group that warns of “armed government oppression” and a “world government.” Another group involved in the event stokes fear that “Barack Hussein Obama” will impose “martial law.” A third promotes a fringe constitutional theory beloved by the Tea Party, and a post on its website describes public schools as “progressive indoctrination camps.”

Gun Appreciation Day has received widespread media coverage since it was announced Monday. As Washington mulls tighter gun laws, the event aims to bring out gun owners to gun stores, gun shows, and firing ranges across the country, in an apparent effort to demonstrate broad, mainstream support for gun rights. Its website, which says it hopes to reach 50 million Americans, shows two well-groomed and smiling blonde women at a firing range. But several of the groups that are centrally involved traffic in some extremist conspiracy theories that are popular on the far-right fringes of the political debate.

But some of the “sponsors” listed on the event’s website (scroll down for a list of sponsors) appear motivated in part by the kind of outlandish and paranoid ideas often found among right-wing extremist groups.

One, the Social Security Institute, describes itself as a “nonpartisan seniors advocacy organization.” But its website offers warnings about “world government”—a bête noire of the extreme right, which fears that a government gun grab could lead to a U.N. takeover, often referred to in extremist circles as a “New World Order.” And SSI’s president, Lawrence Hunter, wrote recently that “[a] heavily armed citizenry is not about armed revolt; it is about defending oneself against armed government oppression.”

Bisphenol A (BPA) is a ubiquitous compound in plastics. First synthesized in 1891, the chemical has become a key building block of plastics from polycarbonate to polyester; in the U.S. alone more than 2.3 billion pounds (1.04 million metric tons) of the stuff is manufactured annually.

Since at least 1936 it has been known that BPA mimics estrogens, binding to the same receptors throughout the human body as natural female hormones. And tests have shown that the chemical can promote human breast cancer cell growth as well as decrease sperm count in rats, among other effects. These findings have raised questions about the potential health risks of BPA, especially in the wake of hosts of studies showing that it leaches from plastics and resins when they are exposed to hard use or high temperatures (as in microwaves or dishwashers).

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) found traces of BPA in nearly all of the urine samples it collected in 2004 as part of an effort to gauge the prevalence of various chemicals in the human body. It appeared at levels ranging from 33 to 80 nanograms (a nanogram is one billionth of a gram) per kilogram of body weight in any given day, levels 1,000 times lower than the 50 micrograms (one millionth of a gram) per kilogram of bodyweight per day considered safe by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the European Union's (E.U.) European Food Safety Authority (EFSA).

Jones is so dangerous because he taints legitimate issues of corporate/banking power control with his bizarre behaviour, thus falsely turning many of these paradigms into 'conspiracy theories', a label which in turn shuts down legitimate debate and public dissent.

The Anglo-American complex is a master at this, going back to its sui generis at the Tavistock Institute and Edward Bernays, and then flowing through MI5/MI6, the OSS and CIA, followed up by the FBI (COINTELPRO-modeling).

The more wacky the attendees will be, the more equipment gets packed in the van.

These people aren't doing the gun lobby any favors here. The kind of person who wants to display their guns before the cameras and other attendees are the fringe lunatics who make for good news footage. It's like they can't keep it in their pants, so to speak.

This event is turning into a nut magnet, and the chance of it going well is slim at best. I Hope there aren't any accidents.

Even the NRA probably wishes they'd just stay home and let them handle the cause in Washington, but what can they say? These are their people, they created them with hype and fear, and now it's spiraling out of control.
