House Republicans ask Justice Department to consider charges against former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson

Source: CNN Politics

PUBLISHED Mar 6, 2026, 5:00 AM ET

Republicans on Capitol Hill are asking the Justice Department to consider bringing criminal charges against Cassidy Hutchinson, a former aide in President Donald Trump’s first administration who became a star congressional witness about the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot, according to two sources familiar with recent developments.

GOP Rep. Barry Loudermilk made a criminal referral of Hutchinson to the Justice Department in recent days, the sources said. He accused Hutchinson of lying to Congress in her summer 2022 testimony when she alleged Trump was aware of the potential for violence on January 6, 2021, and forged ahead with his attempts to rile up his supporters.

Loudermilk has long attempted to reframe the public perception of the events at the Capitol, including by scrutinizing the House committee that investigated the Capitol riot and found Trump was “directly responsible” for the riot. Loudermilk’s referral was co-signed by House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, who chairs the committee under which Loudermilk is running a probe of January 6.

The Justice Department’s press office didn’t respond to inquiries about the referral. Both current and former lawyers for Hutchinson didn’t respond to multiple inquiries this week from CNN. CNN has reached out to Loudermilk for comment.

instead of helping the US citizens, republicans continue the revenge stalking.

This too will backfire.

He apparently kept it to the J6 Committee members, the Capitol Police members who testified, Gen. Mark Milley, and Dr. Anthony Fauci.

If she was keeping track of conversations close to when they happened, and produces them, along with any other evidence, this may go badly for DOJ ( who as we know has a great track record in this administration. )

The son of a bitch has TREASON tattooed on his forehead. He led a bunch of traitors around (I wanna say on January 5th, but that can't be right, can it?) and showed them where the security cameras were, as I recall. He's no more a loyal "American" than Trump's Russian buddy, Putin.

I would hope that maybe now some Democrat might ask for an investigation into his actions leading up to the insurrection. I would hope. But I'm not holding my breath.

Ms. Hutchinson kept all the inappropriate emails sent to her by the congressmen. She also kept detailed

notes and she was a very effective witness! I doubt this goes anywhere, but I 'd bet on Ms. Hutchinson

prevailing! She's badass!

Hmmm, maybe it should be Lowdermilk? , although I'd much rather it be Ms Hutchinson. A very courageous woman, indeed, attacked by 2 craven, gutless, traitorous pseudo men (I include Jordan).

She was a witness to various facts and in essence drew conclusions based on those observations. I hope DOJ has some good evidence she lied. (I’m quite certain they don’t. Somebody else just wants to be in line for Groom of the Stool.) I hope she has a basis to counter sue.

It would be great if Trump would stop his presidential revenge tour. However, I know he's to much of a narcissistic scum bag for that to happen.

Do they really want to start dragging out this stuff now? The discovery alone would be damning to Mango Mussolini and Republicans.

Could she demand the part 2 of that report that the Florida judge repressed as part of discovery? I would think so. It's all related.

Yea, this is a dumb move on their part.

I read Cassidy Hutchinson's book and came away from it with a great deal of respect for her. I really hope nothing comes of this.

Aside from the fact that I'm sure she was telling the truth, i can't imagine how they think they could "prove" she wasn't. I suppose there's a chance they could try to indict her and it get thrown out of court as has happened with some of Trump's other "enemies," and it will hard to imagine it going farther than that. But that is still a hell of a lot of stress to put an innocent person through, not to mention the legal bills that would be involved. GOD, I HATE DONALD J. TRUMP AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF HIS FUCKING ENABLERS SOOOO MUCH!!!!!
