Trump rejects settling Iran war, raises prospect of killing all its potential leaders
Source: Reuters
U.S. President Donald Trump said he is not interested in negotiating with Iran and raised the possibility that the Iran war would only end once Tehran no longer has a functioning military or any remaining leadership in power.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Saturday, Trump said the air campaign could make negotiations a moot point if all potential leaders of Iran are killed and the Iranian military is destroyed.
"At some point, I don't think there will be anybody left maybe to say 'We surrender,'" Trump said.

You see, YOUR countrymen want regime change just as much as the Iranian people. What makes YOU so different from Khamenei? You're all evil, and deserve accountability.

(9,087 posts)He's been all about ceasefires and how terrible it is that people are killing each other. All those souls.
Why won't he call a ceasefire?
This is a silly and pointless war. It's getting boring.
He should make a deal.
It sounds like he and whoever's the surviving leader of Iran at the moment just don't like each other at all.
There's a lot of hatred there. It's so great. There's no camaraderie. Not even a little bit.
So much hatred. So sad.
They should get around a table and make a deal.
It could be over in a day.

(13,184 posts)The Artesh (regular army) is about 600,000 strong. Key positions maintain levels of succession. They are a fairly conventional territorial defense in that they are not embedded throughout every sector of the economy and society.
Even if continued prosecution of this criminal war "defeated" the Artesh, the oppressive might of the vast IRGC/Basij military, industrial, economic conglomerate -- might that is effectively independent of Ayatollah rule -- is likely to remain. They are embedded in every segment of the economy and society. There are 40,000 to 50,000 Basij bases around the country.
I continue to be mystified that few are talking about the unique infrastructure of oppression in Iran. Everyone seems to assume we are just up against a conventional territorial defense force.
It's not the military that has a stranglehold on the people, it is the IRGC/Basij.

(6,831 posts)more American civilians will be paying the price in the future. Witness the never ending attacks on Israel and the never ending bombing and killing of future Osamas in response.
Wars like this just create more hate and retaliation and more wars and more hate.
Did the Crusades work? Did the Afghan war work? The war in Iraq?
