NEW YORK/WASHINGTON, March 11 (Reuters) - U.S. intelligence indicates that Irans leadership is still largely intact and is not at risk of collapse any time soon after nearly two weeks of relentless U.S. and Israeli bombardment, according to three sources familiar with the matter.
A multitude of intelligence reports provide consistent analysis that the regime is not in danger of collapse and retains control of the Iranian public, said one of the sources, all of whom were granted anonymity to discuss U.S. intelligence findings.
The latest report was completed within the last few days, the source said.
With political pressure building over soaring oil costs, President Donald Trump has suggested he will end the biggest U.S. military operation since 2003 soon. But finding an acceptable end to the war could be difficult if Irans hardline leaders remain firmly entrenched.

He was shocked and furious.

(734 posts)That statement was phenomenally stupid. There is no reason for the Iranian regime to negotiate with that threat over its head.
There was intense debate on its use in World War II despite the horrifying evil of the Nazi regime, because the allies knew demanding unconditional surrender would cause components of the Nazi regime to fight to the death.
By coming across vindictive and arbitrary, the Trump administration has given the rest of the world no reason to trust it.

MAGA Republicans will believe any excuse, no matter how flimsy. He'll probably just claim that he achieved all his objectives and Iran has no capability to produce nuclear weapons. End of story, and on to Cuba, the next country to destabilize and take over to steal its rare earths.

I wonder how many times Sean Hannity turned down a position? I'm just sure he offered Hannity a job generating propaganda or policy decisions, but Sean isn't passing up a Fox News paycheck for public service. I'd be surprised if he isn't getting money under the table anyway.

They've already seated a new leader who's worse than the last one, and the Revolutionalry Guard - plus all their weaponry and other "tools of the trade" - remains intact, as does their legislature. Pictures and reports I've seen over the last few days indicate the new leader has vast support throughout the country.
My reading is that those Iranians who were opposed to the old regime and welcomed the decapitation at the top are in a minority.
Trump was expecting the Iranians would hold ticker tape parades and welcome their liberators. Awareness of what led up to the 1979 revolution, and what's happened since, should tell anyone that regime change there isn't possible and that embargos and containment is (or, was) the only viable strategy for the time being.
Trump Hegseth are assholes...corrupt and incompetent and with a Christian nationalist death wish.
