NEED TO KNOW
* A new dime coin entering circulation this year is capturing attention for an easy-to-miss detail in its design
* In the updated design, which riffed off the Great Seal of the United States, an eagle in flight carries arrows in its talons on one foot as it looks over at the other foot, which is empty
* In the original seal, the eagle is holding an olive branch -- which symbolizes peace -- in its other foot
* Founding Father Charles Thompson, who helped design the Great Seal, wrote in 1782 that the olive branch and arrows appearing side-by-side in the eagle's talons "denote the power of peace & war which is exclusively vested in Congress"
A new dime coin entering circulation in 2026 is sparking conversation after eagle-eyed Americans noticed a small but significant detail in its design.
The Emerging Liberty Dime, announced earlier this year, no longer features President Franklin D. Roosevelt on the face, nor does it display the former torch, olive branch and oak branch on the reverse.
In the new face design, a determined Lady Liberty turns to the right as tailwinds push strands of her hair forward. On the reverse, an eagle in flight carries arrows in its talons on one foot, and looks back at its other foot, which is notably clutching nothing.

(7,753 posts)Of our country's core beliefs and establishment. Sure he kept the arrows as threats to everyone. But gone is the olive branch that symbolizes peace thru diplomacy.
We have lost our country's core essence for existing, at least to the Founders and the citizens at the time the Constitution was written.
Jesus weeps... I scream bloody murder. Give me a few of those arrows. I could think of things to do with them besides destroy sovereign nations.

(932 posts)The "Mercury" dime of 1916-1945 featured a fasces on the reverse. And the Washington quarter of 1932 bears a striking resemblance to the 5 lire coin of Mussolini's Italy.
