The U.S. embassy in Iraqs capital of Baghdad was hit by a missile strike Saturday morning, several media outlets reported.
The attack caused smoke to rise from the embassys building, Reuters reported, citing Iraqi security sources. Two security officials told the Associated Press that a missile struck a helipad inside the U.S. embassy compound.
Agence France-Presse reported the damage had been caused by a drone strike, not a missile.
Several videos, circulated by the AP and the BBC, show pillars of smoke rising from inside the facility. There was no immediate comment from the embassy.

Ukraine is skilled in what those drones can do. It's a whole different ballgame where Patriots batteries are irrelevant. We're like a bunch of vulnerable idiots.

Russia is working with Iran to kill Americans and Krasnov just released sanctions on Russian oil stranded at sea.
Krasnov isn't a Russian asset, he is a Russian agent.

(22,104 posts)That tech transfer was initially from Tehran to Moscow. Russians were fighting the last war, and badly, before Iranians stepped in to help. And Iran does have a space apparatus and likely surveillance sats of their own. Plus, decades of planning for this possible scenario. It's not like DC and Tel Aviv have been coy about their intentions of late. On the flip side, this may be a joint effort. Moscow would certainly enjoy watching us lose. But they have to be careful and not damage their orange intel asset too much.

The United States inaugurated its largest embassy ever on Monday, officially opening a fortress-like compound in the heart of the Green Zone as a testament to America's commitment to Iraq.
Addressing an inauguration ceremony under tight security, Ambassador Ryan Crocker said the $700 million embassy was testimony to America's long-term friendship with Iraq, where about 146,000 U.S. troops are deployed.

(7,974 posts)They were launching 500, now only like 30! We've already won!
Their capacity to launch missiles is down 57ity%! We have TOTAL AIR DOMINATION! By tomorrow, their missile launching capacity will be reduced at least 31% to somewhere in the area of 74%. The launch sites are down 190%. They are completely destroyed. And we intercept 80% of the 21% of missiles that they have been degraded to. That's less than 1% of 59%.
Let's GOOOOOOO!

(168,858 posts)We have lost SEVEN refuelers. The "accident" set included one completely lost and the other damaged but still able to make it to a base to land. But there is no way that one will be up in the air any time soon.
