US tells embassies to review security 'immediately'

Source: The Hill

03/18/26 10:19 AM ET

The State Department on Tuesday ordered all of its U.S. embassies and consular posts across the globe to “immediately” evaluate their security operations, following retaliatory attacks on embassies in the Middle East amid the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran, multiple outlets reported.

Cables written by Undersecretary of Management Jason Evans and signed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio urged embassies to carry out these evaluations due to “the ongoing and developing situation in the Middle East and the potential for spillover effects,” NBC News reported.

State officials also requested that “ALL posts worldwide” should review their “security posture” and convene their Emergency Action Committees, multidisciplinary teams focused on preparing for and identifying attacks, according to The Washington Post.

A State Department spokesperson told The Hill it does not comment on internal department communications, saying the disclosure of internal communications was “inappropriate” and threatened to undermine “our ability to protect U.S. personnel and facilities and to carry out our national security responsibilities.”

Every U.S. Embassy around the world is now a target. Some might recall almost 30 years ago, what happened with our Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania (and most of the fatalities were the locals who worked there) - The August 7, 1998, East Africa Embassy Bombings

For those adding up the cost of this fiasco.

(IMO, Trump and his appointments should be personally liable to reimburse the government for the unfunded mandates this administration has accrued. )

Well before the start of this special operation. That it wasn't tells me Trump made this more on the spur of the moment. Though he did move the navy into place before hand but must have convinced himself that once the Iranian heads were removed, the operation would be over.

Reading tea leaves.
