Washington state bans law enforcement from wearing masks while on duty

Source: msn/The Independent

Washington state has enacted a new law barring all law‑enforcement personnel — including Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents — from wearing masks while on duty.

Governor Bob Ferguson, a Democrat, signed the bill into law on Thursday after it sailed through the Democratic‑run House and Senate by comfortable margins.“Law enforcement’s job is to protect us — yet, ICE is hiding from public accountability,” Ferguson said in a statement. “For the safety of both the public and law enforcement, Washingtonians must know they are interacting with legitimate law enforcement officers.”

All non‑transparent face coverings — such as ski masks, gaiters, tactical masks, and balaclavas — are now banned for law‑enforcement personnel, though religious exemptions are allowed. The measure also allows individuals detained by masked officers who flout the law the ability to take legal action, including by seeking compensation.

“Masked enforcement has sown fear, terror, and distrust in our communities,” Democratic state Sen. Javier Valdez, who sponsored the bill, said in a statement. “This new law ensures that anyone exercising power over another person is fully accountable and visible, and that families across Washington can feel safe knowing who is in a position of authority. Transparency is not optional, and justice should never hide behind a mask.”

need their cosplay suits and their gang mentality, and they need to cover their faces because they know they should be ashamed of what they're doing.

They're worms.

... let us not insult Lumbricus terrestris by comparing them to the lower life forms of ICE that infest our cities and towns like so many ticks (Argasidae). Now there's a creature of questionable value to the universe that is certainly worthy of the comparison. Their only redeeming quality is that chickens like to snack on 'em.

We seem to think it is Donald, but it is not.

That is one of the main issues I have with the current situation in this country. Getting rid of one person is not going to solve a damned thing. Getting rid of a dozen is not going to, either.

I would say the analogy is sheep searing is the best one.

For those who have not ever seen it, when a sheep is sheared, they leave the pen and wander around looking like poor lost souls who have lost their meaning for life. They act like the world has ended and the looks that they give each other at times are very funny.

They look so alone and lost when this happens.

That is what I want for the MAGA faithful. I want to drink in their tears. I want them to be wandering around with that lost look on their faces. I want them to pay for their efforts to destroy this nation just because they don't like a certain race or creed.

I want to see suffering. Lots of it. To make up for what their 'gods' did to us while in the position to do so.

Fuck 'coming together'. The only reason would do that is to find more of them to punish.

Consequences. They are essential for learning a lesson. They are essential for keeping the insanity in check. They are essential for maintaining a decent society. They have to exist.

And they have to be used against those who deserve them. If I read about one more wealthy murder suspect who gets a few years and 'time served', or another CEO who destroyed massive natural resources who gets a slap on the wrist, while some poor homeless person gets fifteen years for stealing a $20 meal so that he and a few others can eat today...

And ICE's mandate is set by the federal government. Presumably also their code of dress.

I mean, if this is so easy, why haven't other Democratic run States done this?

But federal agents are not immune from state laws. If that were true then they could speed or throw trash out that window or any number of things and never fear state criminal charges for a crime.
Even federal officials and federal law enforcement agents, have to follow city, county and state laws.
It's often more about those laws being enforced then it is about if they are required to follow them because they are.
Shockingly, law enforcement is often noted for not applying the law to their peers as they do to everyone else.
