A business owner named Mario Guerrero — who supported President Donald Trump in all three elections — now says ICE raids are gutting his workforce. lamenting to The New York Times that “We just never thought that this would come and affect us in the construction industry.”

Trump’s ICE crackdown has been under fire after several killings and has prompted a DHS shutdown by Democrats demanding reform.

But even supporters of the president’s policies are becoming dissatisfied. In a New York Times report by Jeremy Raff, Ivan Narez Hurtado, and Ben Laffin, Guerrero said “Deporting the criminals is a great policy” — but not when they “show up to our job sites with no warrants, taking all our workers, even the workers with proper documentation”:

TRUMP VOTER MARIO GUERRERO: I did vote for Mr. Trump. Deporting the criminals is a great policy. His foundations are poured ready to go and we can’t even start the construction on them. But we voted for the American dream and unfortunately right now we’re not seeing that.

NARRATOR: For months, federal agents have been sweeping up workers at construction sites in South Texas.

MARCO SANTIVANES: ICE has raided us anywhere between 10 to 15 times throughout different subdivisions.

NARRATOR: Now, work sites across the Rio Grande Valley have ground to a halt. And that’s got some Trump supporters in this midterm battleground changing their minds.

Not long ago, ran into a friend from an Asian country who became a legal citizen years ago, married an American and they had kids together. My friend thinks undocumented immingrants get all kinds of government "hand outs" and resents it that these immigrants are getting the same benefits my friend worked through the legal immingration system to have.

I believe immigrants like my friend see this as a fairness issue. They came to the US legally, went through the system to become naturalized Americans and worked or are working hard to be successful (living the American dream) while the others haven't..

is that millions have ALSO come here the same way - going through the same onerous process, following all the steps and/or have ACTUAL WORK PERMITS as "seasonal workers", and have been TARGETED by this racist regime, regardless of them "following the rules".

And those who don't or won't "see that" are just as craven as this administration and will perhaps finally "get it" when they are rounded up, thrown in a concentration camp, and deported.

I.e., they think this country has "assimilated them" and IT HAS NOT.

Many Trump voters are focused on this one policy. Now at least some are realizing that Trump's solutions are extreme, but the idea that he effectively closed the "open borders" is an issue that is still motivating many of his voters. That needs to be challenged effectively-- first that only a very small percentage of undocumented. immigrants were serious criminals and second most deportations and arrests that occurred have not been of serious criminals.
