'Because I'm president': Trump struggles to defend casting a mail-in ballot

Source: Raw Story

March 26, 2026 12:22PM ET

President Donald Trump struggled to explain why he cast a mail-in ballot after insisting the practice amounted to election fraud. The president fielded a question about his voting habits during a White House cabinet meeting on Thursday.

"Tell me about mail-in ballots," Trump said as he called one a reporter. "You may not use the mail-in ballot. You probably said, 'yeah, I did.'

You know what? Because I'm president of the United States, and because of the fact that I'm president of the United States, I did a mail-in ballot for elections that took place in Florida.". "Because I felt I should be here instead of being in the beautiful sunshine," Trump said.

The reporter noted that Trump could have voted early because he spent the last few weekends in Palm Beach, Florida."That's right. And I, yeah. And I decided that I was going to vote by mail-in ballot because I couldn't be there because I had a lot of different things," the president snapped.

Technically, he doesn't have any convictions in Florida. Or do felonies in one state count in another?

And, as asked above, can he even vote as a convicted felon who has not served his sentence? Asking for a few Floridians.

your right to vote depends on what the law is in the state where you were convicted, and in New York you can vote if you're not in jail.

I was fortunate to have met HST in the White House and later in Independence. JFK a couple of times. Both through my father.

Nixon while he was on the campaign trail post his loss to JFK (he used my electric razor). And unfortunately, RR in a visit to the Pentagon.

we're just sitting at home on our asses eating Doritos, watching TV, ignoring our children and waiting for our welfare checks to arrive because our baby daddies are in jail. None of us have actual jobs, like emergency room doctor or airline pilot or over-the-road trucker where we really have to be somewhere, or maybe we have two or more jobs we have to be at all day because otherwise we couldn't afford food or rent, and of course none of us are elderly or disabled or ill or lack transportation like our very own B-747 to fly us to the place where we actually could vote in person. Being president means you're so special that you can do all the things you don't think the rest of us should be allowed to do.

Also, fuck you very much, and sideways, and again on Thursdays.

trump is above the law and so it is okay to vote by mail

https://www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/trump-defends-mail-voting-florida-special-elections/

President Donald Trump Thursday defended his decision to cast another ballot by mail in recent Florida special elections, despite relentlessly attacking the voting method as a vehicle for election fraud.

His defense? “I’m the president of the United States.”

Trump has called on congressional Republicans to include restrictions on no-excuse mail voting in the severely anti-voting SAVE America Act. During a public cabinet meeting, a reporter asked him why he chose to vote by mail if the method is as unreliable and fraudulent as he claims it is.

“And because of the fact I’m president of the United States, I did a mail-in ballot for elections that took place in Florida because I felt like I should be here instead of being in the beautiful sun,” Trump said.

After a reporter pointed out that he’d been in Florida the past few weekends and could have voted in person, Trump falsely claimed that the state had exceptions for people away on business trips.

In reality, Florida is a no-excuse mail voting state, meaning any voter can request a mail ballot. But if Republicans follow the president’s lead and include a proposed ban on no-excuse mail voting in the SAVE America Act, Trump likely would not have qualified for his recent mail ballot if the bill became law.

It fucking amazing how many people have zero self respect and support him. He treats them like disposable diapers and they don't fucking care.

What happened that Americans lost basic self respect.

They may have inflexible jobs that are not near the polling places and little control over their hours. They might have illnesses or disabilities that make voting in person ill advised. They might be care takers who can't leave ito vote.

In his case, it came down to golfing and fundraising. Not to mention had he gone to vote, it would have been expedited. No waiting in line.

Maybe his bone spurs were acting up?
