Second US Combat Plane Crashes Near Hormuz After Iran Shootdown: Report

Source: Newsweek

A second U.S. Air Force combat aircraft crashed Friday in the Persian Gulf region, with the lone pilot safely rescued, two U.S. officials told the New York Times.

The officials said the A‑10 Warthog went down near the Strait of Hormuz around the same time an F‑15E Strike Eagle was shot down over Iran, an incident in which one crew member was rescued and search teams are still looking for a second airman.

Department of Defense officials did not immediately return a message from Newsweek seeking additional details on Friday.

And bunkers. I suspect that we don't have a clue what they have in there.

Iran would have been foolish for them not to be prepared.

I used to watch them fly around McClellan AFB in Sacramento when they were in for service. Impressive.
Of course you could build a school for the price tag of one.
But… what’s the Fun in that?

I knew of them but I’d never (obviously) seen one. It was really low. Less than 250 feet I’d guess. Slow too. I’m guessing it was some sort of a training run. I remember we were in our tracks and out in the open. I told my Bradley Commander I could rip that thing apart. Of course it wasn’t firing either so…..

A guy I went to high school with went to the Air Force academy and then flew A10’s.

Top speed is 420 MPH and often very close/low.

See my post above. I saw one and I could have lit it up.

I had no idea these were last produced when I was in high school- 1984.

In Iraq, several were hit by RPG's, gunfire and missiles, yet all landed at base.

https://theaviationgeekclub.com/heres-another-story-10-warthog-landed-safely-hole-cowling-left-engine/amp/

As explained by Gary Wetzel in his book A-10 Thunderbolt II Units of Operation Enduring Freedom 2008-14, since the A-10 has been in combat, several have sustained missile strikes to the engines during operations Desert Storm, Allied Force and Iraqi Freedom, yet they were all able to land safely. More often than not, the A-10’s unique engine location has saved lives. One of them was that of was Capt Aaron Cavazos from 75th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron (EFS).
