Iran has attacked Saudi Arabia's Jubail petrochemical complex, IRGC says

Source: Reuters

April 7 (Reuters) - Iran on Tuesday attacked Saudi Arabia's Jubail petrochemical complex, the heart of the kingdom's downstream sector, its Revolutionary Guards said, the latest evidence of Tehran's ability ‌to strike back in response to U.S.-Israeli attacks ahead of a U.S. deadline to open the ‌Strait of Hormuz.

Iran said the attack was in response to attacks against its Asaluyeh petrochemical plants, which are connected to its massive South Pars gas field and were reportedly hit by multiple explosions overnight.

U.S. President Donald Trump's ultimatum to Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz oil chokepoint by the end of Tuesday or face bombing of civilian infrastructure would be the biggest escalation yet of the war. Iran has warned it would target similar infrastructure in ‌the Gulf. Hormuz's closure has sent global energy prices surging.

Iran has shown it retains the ability to strike targets in neighbouring countries and effectively shut transit through the Strait, previously a conduit for a fifth of global oil supply.

Iran still has a large percentage of its drones and missiles and can inflict a great deal of damage on our Gulf allies.

Iran responded to President Donald Trump’s looming threat Tuesday with a threat of their own: to lift all “self-restraint” by launching a large-scale attack on energy infrastructure across the Persian Gulf and deprive the United States “of the region’s oil and gas for years.”

“Our self-restraint has come to an end,” reads a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Iran’s military apparatus, as reported by the Kurdish news outlet Kurdistan 24.

“America’s partners in the region must know that until today, we have restrained ourselves for the sake of good neighborliness… however, we are now lifting the immunity provided by our previous tolerance. Our focus will be solely on the targets and on seeking revenge.”

Trump has repeatedly demanded that Iran lift restrictions for U.S.-aligned vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping channel through which a fifth of the world’s oil trade flows. Amid ongoing U.S.-Israeli attacks, Iran has refused, and in mid-March, Trump gave Iran 48 hours to re-open the Strait of Hormuz or face the destruction of its power plants.

On the other hand, it does mean when the war ends if the US spares most of the Iranian capacity but the Iranians destroy their competitors capacity, it'll increase their economic leverage and make the IRCG very, very rich.

I wanna know what 1.5 trillion gets us. We made fun of the Russians and how their Oligarchs lied to Pooty about how "good" their shit was. Me thinks there's a lot of that shit going on with our defense contractors. Billion dollar THAAD Missile defense systems getting taken out by a supposed "inferior" enemy and it takes 3-4 years to build one. Yeah right. A billion dollars would buy a helluva a lot more flying weed eaters with C4 and piloted by an AI powered Raspberry PI and probably be more effective.
(but not really?)
