Democrats introduce impeachment articles against Trump and Hegseth as nearly 100 lawmakers call for 25th Amendment

Source: Independent

Democratic members of Congress have filed articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth while nearly 100 congressional Democrats are calling for the president’s removal from office over his threats to Iran.

Rep. John Larson of Connecticut has filed 13 articles of impeachment against Trump for high crimes and misdemeanors, including the president’s “criminal lawlessness” that has “invited blowback against the United States and its citizens risking 9/11 2.0.”

The congressman accuses Trump of a “serial usurpation of the congressional war power” and “commission of murder, war crimes and piracy” with attacks in Iran, Venezuela and in international waters against alleged drug-running boats and elsewhere.

His proposal also accuses the president of illegally militarizing law enforcement and surging immigration officers into U.S. cities to unlawfully detain and deport “citizens or immigrants based significantly on race or ethnicity or political opposition.”

Sure! Won’t happen with Trump lackeys in control!! But it puts us on the record of being on the right side of history and shows we are DOING THE WORK OF THE PEOPLE! And any Democrat that doesn’t sign on? That’s on the record too!

worst impulses. Impeachment threat is real now.

Will the gop go along with whatever world war can happen or years of asymmetrical attacks in the US...or...will they use their muscle, finally? I have to think something along these lines has been discussed in the past but we seem to have crossed a serious red line.

This past weekend, the deranged juvenile delinquent currently soiling the Oval Office, Capitol Hill, America’s Constitution and the country itself proved beyond any doubt that he could very soon escalate to NUCLEAR threats– if Iran continues to fight back against his unapproved personal war. Trump must GO. Before impeachment, though, it might be more effective for Democrats to (1) Ask VP Vance and Trump’s Cabinet members to sign a “Formal Intention of 25th-Amendment Removal,” (2) Launch that process if enough people comply, or (3) If too many decline, proceed to impeach-- in a single class action--   “Trump, Vance, and all Cabinet members who refuse to remove Trump despite his proven, overwhelming unfitness to remain in office. To remove those who refuse to do their Constitutionally mandated jobs.”   This would be (adapting Trump's favorite hyperbole)  a shot "unlike anything the world has ever seen” across this corrupt Administration’s bow.   It would, at the very least, strongly remind Capitol Hill that Justice is on the way. Regardless of how many patriotic Americans his criminal Administration jails or how many future elections they try to steal, Justice is coming. [Oh... and release the rest of the Epstein Files. We MUST continue insisting on this.]

I have no patience with the "there's no point in trying to do anything because it's just going to fail" school of thought. That's called defeatism, and it's GUARANTEED to fail.

I'm not convinced another impeachment is a good idea politically but there is no hope while the GOP controls the House. Johnson will never allow impeachment to go forward as long as he is speaker.

If Democrats must file articles of impeachment they should wait until there is a Democratic majority in the House.

If success is a spectacle only establishing the powerlessness of the minority, it will succeed wildly. If success is removing Trump from office, there's not a snowball's chance in hell.

Not even trying to do a damned thing. THAT is what's futile.

Ever hear the expression "It's better to light a single candle than to sit and curse the darkness"? I happen to think that's true.

A very strict nanny.

Now it needs a strong team of nannies, constantly whispering in his ear . . . 'Do you really want to do that? What happens if you do? What will the people think?' etc

None of the people who surround him currently qualify for the job.

That only leaves the 25th.

America has had a few occasions in the past when the 25th could and should have been used, and never did.

Under Jay Dee's leadership? NOTHING. I know ya'll want this, but we need to win the midterms and after that 2028. They aren't going to make that easy for us. They will try every trick in the book including unconstitutional laws/executive orders that we must challenge all the way the the Supreme Court. And I don't trust this Supreme Court at all. They just might agree with Trump and make him a dictator. How was it that Rome fell again?

So, my point is: This is it!! This election is the one!! We must win it!! Let's throw our resources into a finely tuned offensive for the midterms. With election lawyers, Supreme Court attorneys, political strategists, massive precinct and phone bank efforts and more. Fine tune this election down to each block and each household in America to make sure the pro-Democracy crowd is ABLE to vote as well as gets out to vote.
