Trump gets warning huge MAGA exodus was triggered by Jesus meme: 'Watch the numbers'

Source: Raw Story

April 13, 2026 7:48AM ET

Axios co-founder Jim VandeHei was left absolutely flabbergasted that Donald Trump harshly attacked the Pope on Sunday — and then doubled down hours later by posting a picture of himself as Jesus Christ on Truth Social. With the president leaving the Trump-as-Jesus meme up on Truth Social, the longtime political journalist claimed on MSNOW's "Morning Joe" that the damage was already done with the president's religious base — and even some MAGA fans who aren't religious.

According to VandeHei, Trump’s approval numbers are now set to collapse even further because the president has given some of his supporters fresh reason to abandon him. “Whether it's a joke or not, most people who are faithful don't take their faith as a joke,” he warned. “None of this stuff happens overnight. It tends to trickle, trickle, trickle. But I think he is playing with fire with the base. And if you look at where he is standing, I think he should be worried.”

“I'm surprised his advisors didn't say, ‘Come on, man.’ Like, it's at some point you're pushing this too far. Your favorable ratings are already relatively low,” he said. “Morning Joe’”co-host Jonathan Lemire called the two posts “madness” and remarked, “I think Trump's not used to, he's not used to sharing the stage with anyone. And Pope Leo has been a very quiet figure in his first month in the Vatican. That has now changed.”

“Watch the numbers,” Vandehei predicted. “The trajectory is not great for Donald Trump. He's losing young Americans. He's losing Hispanics. He's losing all of the MAGA podcasters with the biggest audiences.

seem to have no concerns about the upcoming election.

I think they believe the same "system" that allowed him to win all the swing states in '24, is in place to make sure he wins everything in '26.

The only reason that I can think of for him to be so unconcerned about the midterm outcomes is that he has a plan to subvert them.

We're already seeing it in the special elections over the past year. Huge drops in R voter turnout. The only loss to Repugs I know of was GA-14, but even then Democrats gained 15 points.

People only need to worry about how to get rid of the whole administration and the repuke control over congress, he is a lame duck no matter what, we just need a candidate who will be a sure winner - I voted for Hillary and Kamala, but many men will NEVER vote for any female. There is only one way to actively remove that snake and that is to have democrats in both houses, and enough votes to convict him.

Or maybe Trump is more like Theodore "Ted" Kaczynski, known as the Unabomber, who blew things up just because he had a bit of a grudge.

Or that enough of his slimy cabinet have the guts to invoke the 25th.

Until that time none of these polls make much difference, he's still going to be tearing the country apart no matter what his poll numbers say.

were installed BEFORE all this crap happened the past year. And right now, the Cabinet revolving door has begun to swing and a RECORD number of members of Congress have either resigned before the end of their terms or announced they would not seek reelection (or have died in office).

From NPR's tracker (not yet updated with the latest announcements) - The record-setting pace of retirements from Congress continues, led by Republicans

According to NPR's congressional retirement tracker, as of March 30, there are 71 current representatives and senators who are retiring or running for a different office — 14 senators and 57 House members.

With the announcements yesterday, that would mean 59 House members gone or going (and I heard yesterday about 2 more, with similar allegations, who are under threat).

It's been 60 years but definitely a Buffalo Springfield moment (difference is there is a Republican President now) -

I see it even more today.

TRUMP IS THE BIGGEST CON MAN EVER......

Ya know, one would think you could tell how religious one person is, simply by counting how many times they go to church. Hmmm, let's count, shall we?

Playing golf is NOT church.

Pretending to be a doctor and lie to yourself and your magats was not a good idea. The fact that you were extremely blasphemous, is disgusting.

That I’ll bet he’s confident that no matter what happens at the polls, they have enough fake results guaranteed that Rs will continue to hold Congress.

At least that’s what his toadies tell him because that’s what he wants to hear.

Too many 2026 losses because 'he wasn't on the ballot' and everything that goes wrong in the next 2 years will be the Dems fault for thwarting his brilliance. Thus they will have 'no choice' but to put him on the ballot to 'save the country'.

Cynical, yes - but the transactional malignant narcissism manual outlines this in the control chapter.
