Far-right election clerk caught illegally purging voter rolls: report

An election clerk in a far-right Michigan county has been purging voter rolls without authorization, Votebeat reported on Tuesday. According to the report, the Michigan Bureau of Elections "sent a letter to Antrim County Clerk Victoria Bishop on Tuesday saying it had received information suggesting she had made voter registration changes 'that fall outside the scope of your statutory authority and fail to comply with the law.'"

Bishop allegedly sent confirmation and cancelation notices to voters who had not participated in the last two elections, per the report — despite the fact, the letter noted, that “Michigan law is explicit that a clerk may not cancel, or cause the cancellation of, a voter’s registration solely because a voter has missed one or two elections.” She then altered the statuses of these voters in the Qualified Voter File, “without any agreement or delegation of authority allowing you to do so from the affected local jurisdiction.”

Bishop is a Republican who was first elected in 2024, and has ties to the Stop the Steal conspiracy theory movement that believes President Donald Trump was cheated out of winning in 2020.

"Angela Benander, a spokesperson for the Michigan Department of State, said that the bureau began looking into Bishop’s actions after receiving 'reports about concerning activity' from voters and local clerks alike," said the report. "From there, state officials looked at the QVF and found enough irregularities to prompt the requests to Bishop.". This is the latest in a series of improper actions taken by local pro-Trump officials to try to prove election rigging.

8. There's a guy in Wisconsin named Harry Wait who

ordered absentee ballots for other people, some were high profile people, then had those ballots delivered to his house just to prove he could.

He was convicted of voter fraud and is awaiting sentencing. He was interviewed by local television and said he'd do it again. No remorse. Jail time is the only way he's going to learn from this.

On the bright side, he proved that the system works and that there are consequences for voter fraud. That's the opposite of what he was trying to prove.

We had a case here in PA in a dark red county where they initiated a 3rd party "audit" using a company associated with the discredited "Wake TSI" (who infested AZ).

(this is not even counting Ken Blackwell's well-known malfeance in OH going back to 2004 and later, and he eventually managed to get involved in 45's first term)

Her husband is a local radio talk show host 3 hours a day. He’s a nutcase Trumper, running his radio show like a conspiracy theory maniac. He got sued after saying a local businessman hired illegal aluens, and in the court case, disclosed he apparently has failed to file taxes for years, while pocketing advertiser money on his own ago show.

17. And then there is the clerk in Shelby Township...

who was one of the fake electors. I still don't know what ever happened to him. Imagine a township clerk who is in charge of elections not knowing he was doing something criminal. The most the republicans who run that township did to him was remove him from the responsibility of handling elections. Then the criminal's wife runs for office and wins. Some places in Michigan just consistently vote republican despite any criminality.

If George Floyd can be instantly killed by police for passing a counterfeit $20.00 bill... can we at least immediately arrest criminals that commit real serious crimes.

Republican criminals almost NEVER get punishment. If the Democrats went on a Republican style crime spree the Republicans would howl and there would be wall to wall news coverage about criminal Democratic thugs. Democrats would be jailed and the Republicans would push to ban the Democratic Party.

I'm sick of reading these stories. Republican commits crime.............. and nothing happened. No consequences, no arrest and, no prison sentence.

A good percentage of voters don't even bother to vote in local elections such as for clerk or school board. In many ways local issues are equally important.
