(Metro San Diego) Officers shoot suspect in movie theater

Source: U-T San Diego

Police shot a man who was possibly armed with a gun in a Carmel Mountain movie theater Saturday.

The shooting occurred during a screening of “Les Miserables” at Reading Cinemas Carmel Mountain 12 on Carmel Mountain Road about 3:50 p.m.

The suspect with a handgun had been chasing his girlfriend in the nearby Best Buy parking lot before running into the lot near the theater, authorities told Steve Krongard, who owns Nickel City arcade next door.

Krongard said police blocked off the parking lot before several officers rushed into the theaters with assault rifles. Later, a stretcher was brought into the theater.

... but it raises an interesting question: to what extent can we expect shooting sprees like Newtown, Aurora, Minneapolis, Oak Creek, etc., etc., etc., to result in excessively vigorous responses by police terrified of repetitions of those kinds of massacres?

Just a couple weeks ago, a friend turned down an invitation to go to out because she was freaked out about someone with a gun invading the mall where I wanted to go.

I invited a friend for breakfast today and she said no because she's afraid of getting the flu.

Or maybe I just have paranoid friends.

We very rarely go to the movies, for a lot more reasons other than crazy people with weapons..I guess theatre shootings will just add to the list of why we don' go.

in movie theaters. But we CAN'T do ANYTHING (meaningful) to stop the proliferation of guns. What have we come to, and for what? We got lucky this time. I thought about going to see Les Mis today. Oy.

I always liked this line (in the original black and white version of the movie):

'If they have guns, we have knives!'

-too tragically unhip for moi!
