U.S. intelligence warns Israel is likely to undermine Iran peace deal, officials say

Source: Washington Post

June 19, 2026 at 11:50 a.m. EDT

U.S. intelligence agencies have warned the Trump administration that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is likely to take steps that will undermine President Donald Trump’s effort to reach a lasting peace deal with Iran, as the Israeli premier faces intense political pressure to continue waging his country’s war in Lebanon, current and former U.S. officials said.

Israel appears intent on maintaining military operations against Iran’s proxy Hezbollah in Lebanon, an aim that would flout a core element of the fledgling agreement that calls for an end to hostilities in that country, according to intelligence reports, including one circulated this week, said the officials. The analysis comes at a moment of growing tension between Netanyahu’s government and Trump administration officials, who have publicly warned Israel against launching attacks against Hezbollah that might derail Trump’s deal.

On Friday, Israel launched airstrikes across southern Lebanon in response to a Hezbollah drone strike that killed four Israeli soldiers. As clashes continued, U.S. and Iranian officials said they postponed talks due to begin in Switzerland on Friday. Vice President JD Vance, who was to lead the U.S. delegation, postponed his trip.

If Netanyahu redoubles his military campaign in Lebanon, he would not only threaten the framework for an agreement signed by the United States and Iran on Wednesday, but he could rupture the relationship with an American president that has been integral to his political fortune.

What kind of idiot negotiators make commitments on behalf of entities that are not party to the agreement??

Like promising to make frozen assets available when the U.S. cannot dictate the disposition of assets frozen under sanctions by UN, EU, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, and whoever else I'm not aware of. And of course, there is also the fact chunks of those assets are held by China, Iraq, India, Luxembourg, and undoubtedly others that don't get mentioned.

And why would Iran accept whatever assurances were offered about bringing Israel to heal?

It's almost like both the U.S. and Iran wanted to be able to announce an agreement they knew would fall apart.

The key aspect that made the JCPOA powerful was the fact that it was a multilateral agreement that included the UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany individually, and the European Union as a whole. Of course, the felon is utterly incapable of partnering with anyone on this and is so deluded with fantasies of his own power that it doesn't even occur to him to work with others.

The only part of this deal that is guaranteed to be put in place is the reinvestment fund. I have no doubt the legal framework for it will be put in place rapidly. And, like the massively corrupt board of peace, it will be exclusively under private control with no oversight authority by the UN, or anybody else. The only thing we can be absolutely sure of is that the most corrupt president in American history is already making plans to line the pockets of various family businesses, cronies, and other parties to the corrupt consortium.

Just the rumors of Israel’s role in Trump’s roll-over memo of understanding - you KNEW it was going to be a huge problem.

Now, why didn’t Trump? And specifically - why didn’t Kushner?

No more help of any kind. Justice he cut off Ukraine. Bibi is making a fool of him. ( trump does a good job of it on his own but he really should see it clearly now that he is being used).

"No shit Sherlock"

Israel isn't going to stop. And I don't believe the US is going to either. Krasnov won't leave Bibi. I believe Krasnov sees this as being a profitable war. He and his friends are making gazillions $$$.

No more financial support, no more weapons, no more nothing!

And a stiff word with Bibi.

Drop a not very subtle hint Israel might be ripe for a change in leadership.

Cut them off. Israel is trying to make part of Lebanon into part of Israel fuck ‘em.

Bibi has dirt on Trump as per the Epstein files, our elections, his links to Putin, and
other crimes too.
