PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) Workers at the Williams Avenue location of PDX Sliders in Portland filed to unionize on Wednesday, with a 95% supermajority seeking voluntary recognition and alleging wage theft, retaliation, and unsafe working conditions.
Union organizers say they are backed by the Coalition of Independent Unions (CIU), city councilors, and local labor allies. The union said there are several core demands they have made to PDX Sliders. Union organizers said these demands include scheduling security, ending wage theft, just cause protections, and accountability at all levels.
A spokesperson for the union said, The workers at PDX Sliders Williams have lived the conditions of our workplace, and we have had enough. Over a long period of organizing, we have reached a 95% consensus to file for independent unionization at our shop. After forcing management to address a history of discrimination, threats, and illegal wage withholdings, we are demanding real, permanent safety.
KOIN 6 reached out to PDX Sliders for comment.
