Belgium Government Confirmed to Take Legal Action Against FIFA Suspending Falorin Balogun's Ban

Controversy around Falorin Balogun’s revoked suspension is far from over. While the USMNT will now get Balogun against their historic round 16 match against Belgium, the European side has already launched a formal protest against Balogun’s reinstatement. However, as per the recent updates, Belgium may not stop with a formal statement. They’re planning to take the legal route against FIFA.

“REPORT: Belgium has “lawyered up” to fight back against FIFA’s decision to reinstate Balogun, according to a local reporter for the team,” Brent Scher shared via X.

The controversy arose after FIFA reportedly applied its Article 27 rule that allows it to revoke a red card suspension if the case is not about match-fixing. Cristiano Ronaldo was helped when he played in the 2026 World Cup’s opening games following his red card against Ireland. FIFA applied the same to Balogun.

However, the controversy took a wrong turn after reports came out that Donald Trump called the FIFA head, and, later, Balogun’s suspension was revoked. While it’s still a mystery about why FIFA revoked Folarin Balogun’s suspension, Trump went on to thank FIFA for the same.

3. Yes. That Trump interfered needs to be prosecuted however possible. That said, I don't think

that red card should have occurred to begin with, given it was well after the fact and based on still shots? Really?

But, now that Trump has corrupted the process, I'm on Belgium's side.

There should have been some punishment for treading on an ankle with cleats.
After the fact is from VAR. Which is always after the fact.
The VAR official is supposed to view actions and then let the center know.

Where were the VAR officials for the match with France v Paraguay?

Where was the center for that match also. HAveing been a referee for over 20 years I;m at loath to comment too harshly on decisions made in real time from an angle you don;t see on TV and many cameras and the ability to have slow motion.

which is, apparently, quite unusual (generally they're shown several different views/angles).

The ref didn't even call a foul on the play. Perhaps you know, with your experience, but I'd also read that it was unusual for VAR to even weigh in on that kind of play.

Given the ridiculous officiating during France-Paraguay, it seems that FIFA has a real refereeing issue.

2. How much did Trump offer to pay Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA?

Infantino is hardly impartial. He created out of air an otherwise non-existent FIFA "Peace Prize" just for Trump.

I know nothing about soccer. Have heard many commentators disagree with the red card. Just can’t trust the process with these guys.
