PECO works to restore power after weekend storms as strike continues

Source: 10 Philadelphia

Thousands lost power after weekend storms while PECO and its union remained at the bargaining table.

The storms on Saturday and Sunday knocked out power to thousands of customers across the region. More than 50,000 customers were without electricity at one point during the weekend, though the number of outages had dropped significantly by Monday morning.

The outages come as about 1,600 linemen and other PECO workers remain on strike while the utility and IBEW Local 614 continue negotiations on a new contract.

To respond to outages, PECO said it has brought in contractors and secured additional field support from outside the region.
