President Donald Trump addressed the nation on Thursday night in a speech that alleged the countrys election integrity is at risk. During his 26-minute address, he urged viewers to visit the official White House website, where they could find newly declassified documents he said bolstered his case.
However, one of the documents released said that the Russian government sought to assist Trump in his 2020 reelection bid against Joe Biden. Trump touched on the issue of foreign interference in U.S. elections, mainly by China.
The president has long denied that Russian President Vladimir Putin had sought to assist him in elections. But according to an intelligence assessment released on Thursday, the Russian government did try to help Trump. The document (which can be downloaded here under Chinas Acquisition and Exploitation of American Voter Data
is a National Intelligence Council assessment dated Aug. 19 2020. The assessment says in part:
[REDACTED] President Putin and senior Russian officials are overseeing efforts by proxies [REDACTED] to spread claims about fomer Vice President Biden as well as Ukrainian politicians and alleged Ukrainian influence in the 2016 US election. These claims include that when the former Vice President was in office, he engaged in criminal activity in his dealings with Ukraine and individuals tied to Ukrainian energy firm Burisma. Derkach, Kilimnik, and other proxy actors affiliated with the Russian Government are advancing such nauatives with US officials and other prominent persons as well as online, including through personal interactions and audio and documentary film releases via US and Ukrainian media outlets.

This is really incredible. Docs released by Trump tonight confirm RUSSIA tried to spread claims Biden was engaged in criminal activity vis-a-vis Burisma and that it advanced those narratives "with US officials" and planed a "high-profile corruption scandal... at the peak of the 2020 US presidential campaign."

(1,808 posts)Shouldn't this negate his whole screed
So Russia helped him or tried and he'll avoid informing the American public of that of course!

(43,521 posts)But I think it's safe to say that Chump never actually read any of these documents. Maybe nobody in the White House read them, and they got posted last night along with the other stuff.
What would really be great is if they released the documents that prove that Putin helped him get elected in 2016. That would be "bombshell" news - and I hate that word, but it really would be awesome.

(43,940 posts)Especially the part in the second red circle about Burisma.
I remember thinking that it didn't add up. If Biden were corrupt, I reasoned, there would have been other stories about this type of thing before that particular election.
Then I said to myself let's consider who he's up against. Oh, yeah. Everything fell into place and now, all these years later, here is the dumbass presenting actual evidence.

(2,294 posts)If Russia (or any other country for that matter) wanted to destroy the U.S., they would back the worst candidate in history: Donald J. Drumpf. He would do the most damage, as has been proven. Why in the world would they back Joe Biden, who actually understood our tenuous relationship with the ex-Soviet Union? It makes no sense.
T**** is just digging himself a bigger hole every single day. May he fall into it soon before the country is finished off.

(28,488 posts)he committed crimes in colluding with Russian in the 2016 election and attempting to extort Ukraine into indicting his political enemies (and their children) as detailed in Mueller's suppressed report. Jack Smith diligently amassed evidence of subsequent crimes but was stymied by a crooked judge in Trump's employ. this has all got to come out eventually. If it doesn't it mean Trump and his cronies have won.

(1,612 posts)Trump told them what topics to bring up under advisement from Putin to turn public opinion against Biden using his son. Trump has been guided by Russia the whole time. Putin wanted Trump to pull the US out of NATO and pull troops out of Europe. Putin probably also advised IRAN to attack Israel so that Republicans could say we need to drop Ukraine and help Israel.
But now Bibi got Trump to attack IRAN so what's the connection? Why would Trump attack Putin's ally? I'm thinking it's either the oil or the Epstein files.

(1,027 posts)I don't know the back channel he is using, but rest assured, Putin is calling the shots. How can a democratic country's president go against the wishes of it's people and endorse the enemy? This will eventually be brought to the forefront, and it won't be political weaponization, it will and is pure treason.

I'm guessing they wouldn't have referred to them as proxies unless that was proven already in other documents.

(10,465 posts)One of the many infuriating bits about Putins actions is that many of us older DUers remember the constant drumbeat of right-wingers accusing us of betraying the US and being tools of the Kremlin for not lining up like barnyard geese behind their stupid, vicious social and political agendas.
The Cold War has been over for 36 years and here and now we have loyal little MAGA Magoos falling over themselves to cover for an actual foreign asset whod been receiving assistance fromyes, you guessed it!the Kremlin!
