GOP Congressional candidate runs the season’s strangest ad yet

GOP Congressional candidate runs the season’s strangest ad yet
By Muriel Kane

Republican Mark Oxner, who will be running against former Representative Alan Grayson next fall as Grayson attempts to reclaim a seat in Congress, has released a campaign ad that is being widely described by liberal bloggers as “bizarre” and “incredible.”

The ad depicts the “U.S.S. Obamaboat” as a sailing ship rowed by a crew of enslaved children to exhortations of “Don’t you care about the 99%?” while the well-heeled passengers exclaim things like “I got corporate subsidies just last week” and “I got free healthcare for life!”

A man and woman are shown sitting in a pair of matching bathtubs — similar to those in a widely-aired Viagra ad — and the woman turns to say breathlessly, “This ship stimulated my husband’s solar company.”

As the camera pans past a figure in a Guy Fawkes mask who appears to be handing out gold coins, one woman asks, “How did this boat pay for all this stuff?” — but a stern-faced Captain Obama with an Alan Grayson parrot by his side insists, “No questions on this ship!” as the ship heads over a waterfall of debt.

WTF? Another Republican flew over the Cuco's nest. Are they all just completly certifiable?

Edited to add; Yeah, I know, I didn't spell cuco correctly. Never in my life have I had to use that word to describe an entire political party before. It seems I will get plenty of chances to hone that particular spelling this year.

I think that YEARS from now the words Obamacare will be looked at as a 'good' word, like Medicare is now.

And as far as the Obama Boat, I think the sleek black 'Ground Force One' (The Obama Bus) which reflects the sky is much more sexier looking

I noticed they present "I got corporate subsidies just last week” and “I got free healthcare for life!” as if those two things are comparable at all. Those are totally different.

And also who's to say either one of those things is bad. Not ALL corporate subsidies are bad. Some people deserve healthcare for life.

I just watched the whole ad on his website. Crazy ads like this are mostly designed to get attention and try to generate free media coverage. It that sense it's been a big success for Oxner.

ALL people deserve healthcare for life. It's a basic human right.

Other than that minor semantic nit-pick, your post is spot on.

Another sad truth is that too many believe this crap
and never question it. I got a kick, well, sort of, of the
remark at the end by the President saying that there
will be no questions. Projection, pure and simple.

While it seems kind of bizarre to "sane" people, I don't doubt that this ad was presented to focus groups representative of the right wing base before it was released.

That the base would find it "sensible" is creepy.

I meant to say that non-partisan economists said that the financial system would've crashed without the Bailout being signed into effect. It was done by President Bush, not President Obama. Also, the Republicans didn't seem to care about debt when we went from record surpluses to deficits under Bush.
