Police Detain Nevada Assemblyman, Seize Sword

Source: TPM

NICK MARTIN 9:47 AM EST, SATURDAY JANUARY 26, 2013

Las Vegas police on Friday detained a Nevada assemblyman and confiscated a sword from him during some type of disturbance at his grandmother’s house, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

Assemblyman Steven Brooks (D) was later placed in medical custody for a psychiatric evaluation, the newspaper reported.

This was the second times Brooks had a run-in with police in the past week. On Jan. 19, he was arrested on suspicion of threatening the life of Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick, and police said they found a loaded gun and 41 rounds of ammunition in his car.

Obviously he's suffered some sort of break with reality. The state legislature is currently trying to figure out the rules for removing him from his seat - there's nothing in the current set of guidelines that covers this.

It may not be necessary to remove him from office if he can get the treatment he needs. These incidents should highlight the need to fund the mental health care institutions so desperately needed in our country.

and it would have been held as evidence pending the court case if charges were/are going to be filed.

Probably why he chose the sword this time.

They made such a big deal about the sword, that I found the lack of mention about the gun interesting.
