Colbert SUPERPAC **Immediate Release Financial Disclosure** 01/31/2012
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, IF NOT SOONER
Stephen Colbert Wins Democracy!
Kingmaker Pundit Regains Super PAC, Files Financial Report, Takes Nap
"Colbert Super PAC has brought in a staggering $1,023,121.24, which my accountant explains to me that is a number far above 'one,' 'two,' 'five,' or even 'many'" said Stephen Colbert, President and Returning Champion of Colbert Super PAC. "We raised it on my show and used it to materially influence the elections in full accordance with the law. It's the way our founding fathers would have wanted it, if they had founded corporations instead of just a country."

(5,044 posts)I did not think they actually had to disclose their donor list in the first place? Although I could be wrong, but I do not remember seeing one disclosure report from ANY of the superpacs.

Yeah, I guess this is just fluff.

(27,985 posts)If you aren't aware that Stephen Colbert is a fellow patriot fighting the good fight, then let me be the first to let you in on the secret. He is doing it, as he has always done it, with satire, biting satire. He and Jon Stewart use different forms of satire but they are both incredible patriots.
In other words, this isn't lounge material.

(4,831 posts)Interesting that they list the addresses for all the donors etc. Do we need to mail a thank you note to Colbert's supporters? Maybe a OBAMA bumber sticker to Romney's friends.
Firebrand Gary
(5,044 posts)We would get to boost the Obama merchandise coffers! However after reading some of the contributors names, I'd say that Gavin Newsom already has one and the many of the other people listed, like Frumunda Mabalz; we should verify their.........address?

(27,985 posts)That is one of the better names I've heard.

rolling seven digits deep! I got 99 problems but a non-connected independent-expenditure only committee ain't one!''

Promotional Concepts had a great concept and got $ 51 for it.
Kris Long is a photographer and he got $ 40 for the use of a photo.
Brendan Hurley is Stephen Colbert's prop coordinator and he got $ 30.
Peter Gwinn is a writer for Colbert and he got $ 50. Is that what they pay for one joke?

Re: Supplemental Memo To Disclosure Report
Dear Sirs and Sirettes,
Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow (ABTT) would like it entered into the record that as of January 30th, 2012, the sum total of our donations was $1,023,121.24.
Stephen Colbert, President of ABTT, has asked that I quote him as saying, ''Yeah! How you like me now, F.E.C? I'm rolling seven digits deep! I got 99 problems but a non-connected independent-expenditure only committee ain't one!''
I would like it noted for the record that I advised Mr. Colbert against including that quote.
Sincerely,
Shauna Polk
Treasurer
Americans for a Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, Inc.

(2,431 posts)Unfortunately, hipping people to the fact that they are being screwed costs money.
Do think Warren Buffett should just "write a check," too?

(10,926 posts)Money given ironically is so, so much better than money given in earnest, after all.
dogknob
(2,431 posts)... if Colbert's actions reach enough people who otherwise would not even know about Citizens United and if they help to get Citizens United thrown out -- allowing people who actually want to do something about the issue of hunger in the US to effectively run for office -- then yes, the money is much better spent than simply donating it. If public apathy cannot be overcome, hunger will just become a worse issue than it already is.
As long as Citizens United is in place, people for whom hunger is a reality now will be unlikely to effectively influence US policy. Ever.
