Source: BBC News

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez says he has returned to the country after receiving treatment for cancer in Cuba.

In three messages posted on Twitter, Mr Chavez, 58, thanked Cuban President and ex-leader Raul and Fidel Castro.

He also thanked Venezuelans for their support and said he would continue treatment in his home country.

and he looks only to reached Venezuela in the past 12 hours or so.

The date of the pictures taken with his daughters on Friday 15th February is easily confirmed - he's holding the current Cuban edition of Granma.

He's still breathing through a tracheal tube.

I believe you, I just can't find a source for that specific info since they have kept his health and treatment so secretive (2AM arrival back in Venezuela, for example, no media for his triumphant return, etc).

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/02/15/hugo-chavez-photos_n_2694905.html but that wasn't where I'd noticed mention before when I was searching for the clearer picture of him holding Granma wherein the headline to the right of the page is easier to read. That was how I'd managed to confirm the date of that issue.

It was "Viaja hoy a Asia equipo Cuba al Clásico Mundial de Béisbol" http://www.granma.cu/espanol/deportes/14febrero-viaja.html
dated Thursday 14th when the pictures were taken

He cannot walk.

He cannot raise his head/sit up.

He cannot breathe on his own.

He cannot speak.

He's had a "pelvic tumor" removed four times.

All reports from independent sources say he is suffering from sarcoma--you don't come back from that. Those that are reporting that it is sarcoma say it has migrated to his bones.

Tick tock. Time is running short. It's terribly sad for him and his family, but snarking at me isn't going to change anything.

The man in those photos is in dire straits, and no amount of photoshopping away a trach tube can change that situation.

IMHO he's back to get his final affairs in order before expiring on Venezuelan soil.

Last week's mention of seeking "alternative" cancer treatments was an indication that traditional cancer treatments aren't working.
