Nation's West, Midwest In Path Of Massive Winter Storm

Source: NPR

February 20, 2013 3:20 PM

As many as 30 million people living from Oklahoma to the Ohio Valley are in the path of a storm moving east out of California that could dump several inches of snow in some areas and freezing rain and sleet elsewhere in the next few days.

According to the Weather Channel, the storm is caused by an "upper-level dip in the jet stream," on Wednesday.

Snow will also intensify and spread east in the Plains and Midwest Wednesday into Thursday. By that point, conditions will become favorable for a zone of freezing rain and sleet from Oklahoma and Kansas to the Ohio Valley and parts of the East.

and it's going to head East from here while the storm picks up strength.

Ladies and gentlemen: start your snowblowers....or at least get your shovels ready!

predictions.

Snow I can deal with but freezing rain scares the hell out of me. Without power in the winter for 7 days isn't fun, even for the best prepared.

and it was snowing so hard earlier, I couldn't see anything. We got a total of about 2 inches of snow and I'm at 2600 feet. It's starting to melt but the sky is really dark to the northwest so another wave is about to come, just in time for rush hour. I had no idea that Tucson got snow. It even cancelled the golf practice with Tiger Woods earlier at Dove Mountain. Wow. Look out Midwest, it's heading your way!!!

8. Yep...southern AZ can definitely get snow

I lived there for 20+ years and saw it firsthand on various occasions. When it snows heavily in the mountains, it floods in the Valley...but when snow levels drop, it can even snow in Phoenix, let alone Tucson, which is at a higher altitude than the Valley.

After the way the Cardinals and the Suns have tanked, AZ needs something to talk about, so I guess Mother Nature provided!

Hope that everyone stays safe and warm, doesn't get into any accidents. I hate ice outside!
