Federal panel opens GOP computers in Wisconsin redistricting case

Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel JSOnline

Madison - A federal court gave groups suing the state broad access Monday to three computers used by the Legislature to develop Republican friendly voting maps.
The Legislature "must make these three computers available in their entirety immediately" to the groups suing the state, the three judges wrote.

"The computers are extremely likely to contain relevant and responsive materials that should have been disclosed during pretrial discovery. Moreover, Plaintiffs have established that substantial numbers of documents were not disclosed, which satisfies the court that some form of 'fraud, misrepresentation, or misconduct' likely occurred," the unanimous opinion said.

The ruling provided the latest setback for Republican lawmakers, who have consistently resisted releasing documents in the case. It will give the plaintiffs a chance to determine whether legislators and their attorneys improperly withheld additional documents before the case went to trial.

Once a decade, each state must draw new maps for legislative and congressional districts to account for population changes. Republicans controlled all of Wisconsin's government in 2011, and they used their power to draw lines that were greatly beneficial to their party.

will be leery of this happening to them, and will rule accordingly. Glad something is being done somewhere about the ridiculous partisan redistricting that Republicans have been getting away with all over this country.

What if the courts said that there would be a stiff penalty for unethical misdeeds
and that there would be an amnesty period and people could come forward and
"confess" the dirty tricks that they knew about.

But only one person could get amnesty for each misconduct and the rest would get
a stiff penalty.

I'd bet there'd be a lot of individuals who would want to save their skin and their reputations
and become state's witness.

I am so tired of having all these dirty tricks exposed and then waiting for months for
the courts to get the evidence and then go thru court trials and then have corrupt
judges drop all the important charges and then these people get a slap on the hand.

Let's get some teeth in these courts and make people afraid to attempt to do these
anti-democratic, unethical maneuvers ti,e after time after time because they aren't afraid
of the consequences!

Get the evidence. Take them to court. Convict them for their crimes.

This country belongs to the people, not to a handful of bought-off Republican legislators! Get them out of the State governments as well as the federal. Their era of misrule to benefit only the wealthy is coming to an end.

and the ones that were in them when the redistricting happened somehow magically got sent to a recycling plant and are now beer cans? If there's anything Republicans have learned in the last decade, it's to make damn good and sure they don't leave paper trails.

...Evidence of a cover-up is evidence of a crime. And there it is in black and white.

Now, take that idea back to:

* The financial meltdown of 2008;

* Election results in Ohio, 2004;

* The exposure of a CIA agent and the WMD team for which she worked;

* The anthrax attacks and subsequent harassment-until-suicide of a non-Bush Administration official;

* The 9/11 attacks;

* Election results in Florida, 2000....

You will find evidence of cover-ups in all of those events. That should be all the evidence we need to hang every Republican working in those days.

It's time to go get them, and it's starting now.
