Benedict XVI to Keep His Name and Become Pope Emeritus
Source: NY Times
Pope Benedict XVI will keep the name Benedict XVI and become the Roman pontiff emeritus or pope emeritus, the Vatican announced Tuesday, putting an end to days of speculation on how the pope will be addressed once he ceases to be the leader of the worlds 1.1 billion Roman Catholics on Thursday.
Benedict, the first pope to resign voluntarily in six centuries, will dress in a simple white cassock, forgoing the mozzetta, the elbow-length cape worn by some Catholic clergymen, the Vatican spokesman, the Rev. Federico Lombardi, told reporters at a news briefing.
And he will no longer wear the red shoes typically worn by popes, symbolizing the blood of the martyrs, Father Lombardi said, opting instead for a more quotidian brown. Mexicans will be happy to know that the pope very much appreciated the shoes he received as a gift last year in León, Mexico, he added. He finds them very comfortable. It was after the grueling trip in March 2012 that the pope began to seriously consider resigning, the Vatican said after the pope announced his resignation on Feb. 11.
Father Lombardi said the pope had decided on his couture in consultation with other Vatican officials. Benedict will also stop using the so-called fishermans ring to seal documents. It will be destroyed by the cardinal camerlengo, the acting head of state of Vatican City during the sede vacante, the canon law term used when the papacy is vacant.

The X-Pope Benedict will to be planing to hide out from his sins and crimes, as we have all heard, but maybe not where we think. Maybe he'll be on a beach on some Caribbean Island, instead of praying in a private area of the Vatican, he'll could be there praying for another Margaretta, and praying that no one recognizes him for his present or past sins. While the whole world thinks that he is wonderful for his dedication of prayer in the Vatican hideout, he could be studying his next prey on the beach.
Will Jesus return to destroy him before something like that happens? I think so.
I was reading the Bible and came across this prophecy about a man of sin that really describes this Pope Benedict as the main subject. Here it is:
2Th 2:1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2Th 2:2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
2Th 2:5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?
2Th 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time.
2Th 2 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work Catholic Church had begun ) only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.( Resigns )
2Th 2:8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed ( SINS and Crimes ) , whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
2Th 2 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
2Th 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Prepare for the second coming of Christ Jesus!

(5,103 posts)Then God would not have allowed this to happen.
Here comes the reasons I gave up all organized religious belief. (Feel free to add to them!)
It's God's will.
God works in mysterious ways
It's all part of a bigger plan.
Man was not meant to know.
Our minds are too small to comprehend.
Don't question the church.
Ask questions, go to Hell
and finally, God said it, I believe it and that's that!
Religion, the other people control device next to war!
Bless you, my Child.

(50,566 posts)Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then He is not omnipotent.
Is He able, but not willing? Then He is malevolent.
Is He both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is He neither able nor willing? Then why call Him God?
I'll add to your list the very common sentiment expressed after some tragedy where mass deaths ensued and one lucky survivor says: "God saved me!" ... completely ignoring the glaring obvious counterpoint to that, which is if "God" had the power to save that person, God must be one tremendous asshole to either cause or at least not prevent the deaths of the rest of the poor schmucks who perished.

(321 posts)Any organization that says "don't question the church" you should run away from very quickly. Jim Jones comes to mind on this one. The rest of the list that you gave sound like the responses of someone who is either ignorant or wants to have their hand in your pocket for one reason or another. I'm not calling you ignorant by any means, but the idiots that would say that to you.
I can understand your point. A lot of people become pious after a point. Think "Church Lady" on this one.
Some churches are really good and do good for the community. Some are self righteous fashion shows. The key is finding one of the good ones.
well said.

(2,124 posts)The man is in his mid 80s. I am not religious and have been critical of the church's history and present day tactics. The modern day church has a ton of problems and nobody disputes that.

(38,318 posts)With this precedent a "board of directors" can fire a Pope if, say, he gets caught laundering money, ripping off wealthy elderly widows, or molesting children.
The Church is modernizing. They're adopting a corporate style of management so they can say, "Look, we fired the guy..." just like BP fired Tony Hayward when, after the oil spill, he told a reporter "...we're sorry for the massive disruption it's caused to their lives. There's no one who wants this thing over more than I do, I'd like my life back" and then sailed away on his yacht.

(3,601 posts)I also read the red shoes were descended from the red caligae worn by Roman emperors. Of course Renaissance and Baroque era Venetian whores were also required to wear red shoes. You may draw from that what conclusions you will.
