Middletown resident to challenge Boehner in 2014

Last edited Tue Apr 2, 2013, 02:55 AM - Edit history (1)

Source: Middletown Journal

Middletown resident and Army veteran Andrew Hounshell said he will announce his candidacy April 5 to challenge Speaker of the House John Boehner for his congressional seat.

Hounshell stepped into the limelight this past September when he introduced President Barack Obama at a campaign stop in Cincinnati.

Andrew Hounshell is a Army Veteran, steelworker, vice president of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 1943, husband, father of triplets and a native son of Ohio.

He obviously is a huge underdog in this race due to John Boehner's name recognition, fundraising ability and the fact that the republicans have gerrymandered the congressional map of Ohio. The things on Mr. Hounshell's side is he has a early start and is a middle class family man. Give him a look before you throw in the towel.

because I think they will be more cautious about unnecessary usage of troops into war. He's also been vetted by Obama's people since he spoke at a rally of his in the past, I think they must have liked what they saw.

Plus, Boehner out - YES!!

and decide NOT to spend the money.
Leaders of either party are in such secure seats that it is almost impossible for ANY
challenger to win.

Only memorable exception in my life speaker Tom Foley. I still don't understand that one.

I am not having any trouble copying the link as it is and then pasting it in a new browser, so there has to be some block up by DU.

The reasoning the local Dem parties gave to me was that the Republican governor pricked around redrawing the state congressional district map. There was one person who was up to the challenge but when the final map was drawn they were drawn out of the district and with only 10-15 days to file no attempt was made to fill the ballot line.

Didn't former Ohio Congressman Bob Nye (or Ney?) say some pretty critical things about Boehner recently?

I think there is an interview with him about Boehner here on DU under videos.

...the advantage of being a Republican House Leader in a Republican State is that your district gets solidly Gerrymandered. In the past 10 years, Boehner hasn't done worse than 64%. Unless he gets bloodied by a Tea Party primary, he's a lock for re-election. Giving Hounshell money might be a feel-good moment, but it's money that can't go to a challenger with a better chance of picking up one of the 17 seats we need.

It appears that our system or lack of an effective system of government makes it vulnerable to corruption. Gerrymandering, manipulation of the electoral system, unequal access to the MSM, outright propaganda without any right to challenge, etc.

Are those numbers from before the census because I don't see how they could have got any congressional numbers from the 2012 cycle, Boehner went uncontested. Also Clark County is now part of OH-8 and it went blue for Sherrod Brown and Obama only lost the county by like 200 votes.

Leadership. So what we lose in gerrymandered districts. People can and do change their votes, even if they don't change their public affiliations. Force Boenher, et al, to defend their policies/agenda/ record. If nothing else, it weakens their effectiveness because they will have to appeal to the moderates/independents to win.

Don't know this person, but I'll check him out on ActBlue and maybe drop him some coin.
