Colorado department of corrections chief shot dead in home

Source: NBC News

The executive director of Colorado’s department of corrections was shot dead by an unknown gunman at his home on Tuesday night, authorities in Colorado confirmed to NBC News.

Why the director, Tom Clements, was shot and by whom was not clear.

“The initial information was the doorbell had rung and when Mr. Clements answered the door he was shot,” El Paso County Sheriff's Department spokesman Lt. Jeff Kramer said. Investigators were working to confirm that information. Clements was deceased on the scene and was not transported to a hospital, Kramer said.

No one else in the house was injured.

He should have had his bushes and front porch armed too. You can never have too many guns.

<--- just in case it's necessary.

As the head of the DOC he'd be pretty removed from any direct impact on felons with grudges. Might have made some enemies on the way up, I guess.

This is a strange one. Maybe he had some enemies in Missouri where he came from just a year ago.

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/03/22/white-supremacist-suspected-of-killing-colorado-official-brain-dead-after-texas-shootout/

A white supremacist ex-convict suspected of killing Colorado’s top prison official is brain dead and on life support after being shot in the head during a rampage in Texas that left one officer seriously injured, according to CBS News.

-snip-

The Denver Post reported that Ebel is a member of a Colorado white supremacist prison gang called the 211s, named after a Colorado police criminal code for theft. Police are investigating whether the gang ordered him to murder Clements, noting Ebel’s criminal record includes a charge of assaulting a corrections officer.

A Domino’s Pizza uniform and empty pizza box in the vehicle also led authorities to suspect that Ebel may have been involved in the murder of Nathan Leon, a delivery driver who was found dead recently in Golden, Colorado. Police sources told Fox31 Denver that the disguise may have been used to trick Clements into opening his front door.

A little too convenient.

The idea that a deputy took a head wound to advance some nefarious government plot is lunacy. If Fox likes the Saudi angle that makes me even more skeptical. Let's blame it on brown people instead of yet another right wing supremacist loser gone off the rails. Nope, not buying it.

But if he was killed because of his work in corrections, it might be worth noting that he had come recently to Colorado after 30 years in corrections in Missouri. Maybe he had some Show-Me State enemies.

Or maybe it was a random attack. Who knows?

In the past year alone we've had *deep breath* High Park fire, Aurora theatre, Jessica Ridgeway, Glendale arson, multiple homicides at homes in Longmont, Aurora, and Denver, and now this. And that's not even counting our past, like JonBenet Ramsey and Columbine. I won't even look at the Denver Post anymore if I can avoid it, for fear of what fresh new horrors have beset this tragic, tragic state.

Ugh. Your state has been in the news a lot. Wonder why that is. I have never been to Colorado tho I want to someday (and there are states like Georgia I will never set foot in). It sounds like a gloriously beautiful place. Here in California we have our share of insanity too. Come out and see us for a change of pace. You'll be refreshed. There's something here for everyone.
