"Buckwild" Cast Member Shain Gandee Found Dead

Source: WCHS

Three people were found dead Monday in the Sissonville area in a vehicle, including "Buckwild" cast member Shain Gandee, Kanawha County Commissioner Kent Carper said.

Family members and emergency personnel at the scene also said Shain Gandee was found in the vehicle dead along with his uncle, David. The two men had been reported missing for about 31 hours. The name of the other person who was found in the vehicle was unavailable.

A person on a four-wheeler discovered three unresponsive people in a vehicle Monday morning. Emergency responders converged in the Wolf Pen Road area in Sissonville after reports that a vehicle had been discovered.

David and Shain Gandee last told people they were going four-wheeling in a sport utility vehicle. They were reported missing overnight, according to a news release from the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office.

Just speculating as to the cause but it seems most likely.

"It appears the Jeep may have gotten stuck in the bog," Davies said in a news release. "Speculation is that efforts by Reginald Gay to get free from the mire by accelerating caused excessive exhaust to enter the passenger compartment and overcome the occupants. Only the two front windows were open when the Jeep was located. With no direct air flow to remove the fumes, and the V-8 revving excessively, the survivability rating under those circumstances would be grim at best.

I've been 4x4ing for a while and never heard about this happening. Usually it's a parked car in snow. It makes sense this could also happen in mud. Thanks for posting it.

Along with not being able to see what I'm driving through and the onerous clean-up afterwards.

They provided a vehicle to assist authorities. I wonder how they will work this into the show.

Unnamed 3rd individual. I wonder what his involvement is.

Only a couple of ways 3 people could all die inside a vehicle. One is a crash. No details on whether they went off the road.

The other, of course, is murder-suicide with a weapon. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Three other people died too. The car got stuck in the mud and they left it on, and died of exhaust fumes (you don't realize it's happening because you just fall asleep). This could very well be what happened here.

Apparently there are reports that they may have gotten stuck in mud, and left the engine running, resulting in carbon monoxide poisoning.

It doesn't make sense that they wouldn't open a window, assuming they were awake. Which leaves the possibility they passed out or fell asleep without realizing their mistake.

They lived fast and hard, they died fast and hard. I'm sure they would have wanted nothing less than to go out while playing hard and dangerous.

People die skiing, golfing, playing football, sport flying, boating, fishing, sky diving, etc, etc, etc... Life is hazardous, as are many recreational pursuits. Enjoy your life in the bubble.
