Hobby Lobby hikes minimum wage to $14 an hour for full-time hourly employees
Source: NewsOK
Hobby Lobby Stores Inc. has boosted its minimum wage for full-time hourly employees for the fifth straight year, now paying those workers at least $14 an hour.
Those workers previously earned a minimum of $13 an hour.
The minimum wage for part-time employees rose to $9.50 per hour, up from $9. This marks the fourth consecutive year the firm has hiked the wage of part-time hourly workers.
The move will raise the pay of more than 17,726 workers nationwide. The Oklahoma City retailer's new minimum wage for full-time hourly employees is 93 percent higher than the national minimum wage of $7.25 an hour.

While Hobby Lobby is a very conservative company and takes the wrong side on issues like contraception coverage, you have to applaud them for giving employees a reasonable hourly wage.

(14,337 posts)Besides if their female employees are not using BC acccording to Hobby's "conscienous" objection and breeding like rabbits, how long will they keep their jobs.
Male employees and post menpausal women are probably Hobby's most likely employees.

(8,303 posts)Their insurance does pay for standard BC pills. It does not cover Plan B.
Of course, they don't control what their employees do.

(4,758 posts)Because it's OTC.
I haven't asked around but I can't imagine any plan would cover it, for just that reason. Unintended consequences..

(8,303 posts)Although I think making it OTC makes sense.

(6,960 posts)Now, they probably have many full time employees at their main office.
But if the Hobby Lobby near me is typical, I'll bet they don't have more than one or two full time managers per shift.
Which raises another question: does this include 'management' employees?
If it doesn't then I'll wager there aren't more than three or four full time employees in the whole store!
Count me as skeptical that this isn't anymore than a public relations ploy on the part of Hobby Lobby.

(8,303 posts)I know at one point when they had 21K workers total, 13K were full-time.
I've never been in one of these stores - all I know is from news reports and court cases.

We have a chain called Micheal"s in so cal. bet its part of or partnered up with Hobby Lobby hoping to be a Wal-Mart sub division of slavery central.

(5,162 posts)They occupy extremely large buildings that many in the past, during better times were supermarkets or big box stores. There is one a mile away from me. Very clean, very orderly and they have pretty much everything.
What they do not have is much staff. On any given day, there would be maybe seven people in the store. I know this from the shopping experience.

On the other hand, we KNOW that any profit that accrues to Hobby Lobby finds its way to the enemy. So perhaps it is best that a few crumbs fall to people who might actually spend it on food 'n' rent 'n' stuff.

They are not FedEx employees. They pay the full 13% Social Security tax themselves, have to buy their healthcare insurance as individuals, and their own unemployment insurance.
