Billy Long: My Constituents Want More Sequestration, Not Less
Source: Huffington Post
WASHINGTON -- Nobody is particularly happy about the arbitrary, across-the-board spending cuts taking effect as a result of sequestration. That is, except for maybe Rep. Billy Long (R-Mo.), who said Tuesday that his constituents want even more cuts to kick in.
"The people that I've talked to seem to be doing well," Long told local news affiliate KOLR10 News. "In fact, when I got out in restaurants here in town, people come up to me. They want to see more sequestration, not less."
Long said people in other parts of the country may be feeling pain as a result of the $85 billion in cuts. But not his community. "We haven't seen any measurable effect here at all," he said.
Long is right about one thing: Plenty of people are feeling the effects of sequestration, particularly the nation's most vulnerable. Meals on Wheels, a program that delivers food to the elderly, is cutting as many as 19 million meals this year. Cuts to Head Start, the federal preschool educational, health and nutritional program for disadvantaged children, mean hundreds of low-income parents will be making major life adjustments to accomodate being dropped from the program.

None of his constituents must be unemployed, because it's being hit from coast to coast.
Must be a 'perfect' district.

Let's do something to change that!
I think the taker states oughta start giving some of it back. If it's really true (and I think it is) that you only truly understand and can sympathize with how the other guy lives, let's give 'em a taste of it. Your state pays X amount in taxes, well then, you can expect to get X amount back from the federal government in benefits or programs or whatever. Living in a donor state, I've been wanting to see that for a LONG time.

And unless the area he represents is full of rich people then he is full of shit. I would bet a large percentage of the people in his district are on social security and Medicare.
My bs detector went off on this fool's comment.
Does anyone on du live in his district?

He's a graduate of Certified Auctioneer Institute.
He is a member of the National Association of Realtors, National Auctioneers Association, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, the National Rifle Association, and the Greater Springfield Board of Realtors.
Long also participated in the World Poker Tour participating in professional sanctioned games including the Southern Poker Championship at the Beau Rivage and the Bellagio Cup.
ALSO :
a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He serves on three critical Energy and Commerce Subcommittees: Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade; Communications and Technology; and Oversight and Investigations.
With a biography such as he has, its a GOP certainty he is on such important comittees!
Looks to me he's been a-grazing at some kind of trough. Public or otherwise. It would drive me nuts to be told I need to get by on "just a little less" by someone of his stature. Maybe it's a gland thing. Like the mouth gland.

And that's just the low-hanging fruit - it doesn't include the school districts with 80% subsidized lunches, with families at less than twice the poverty rate, and others.
Though he did say "The people that I've talked to..." . Maybe not that many people want to talk to a real-life Jabba the Hut. Or maybe he just ate the ones that disagreed with him.
