The officer in charge of the U.S. Air Forces response to sexual assault was himself arrested for sexual battery this weekend, drawing attention yet again to the extent of rape culture in the armed services.
Lt. Col. Jeff Krusinski is accused of assaulting a woman in an Arlington, VA, parking lot early Sunday morning. According to the police report of the incident, Krusinski approached the woman in question after a night of drinking:
On May 5 at 12:35 am, a drunken male subject approached a female victim in a parking lot and grabbed her breasts and buttocks. The victim fought the suspect off as he attempted to touch her again and alerted police. Jeffrey Krusinski, 41, of Arlington, VA, was arrested and charged with sexual battery. He was held on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
Krusinski is the head of the Air Forces branch of the Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Program, a Department of Defense initiative to combat sexual assault in the ranks. A spokesperson for the Air Force confirmed to local blog ARLnow.com the man described in the police report is in fact Lt. Col. Krusinski, but gave no further comment. ARLNow also confirmed that the woman and Krusinski did not know each other prior to the encounter.

(16,084 posts)The convening authority will try to get the charges dropped, failing that they'll probably overturn the verdict!

(73,631 posts)I used the run the unit Separations shop. If this guy is found guilty and is allowed to separate, I would have been the guy who would see this guy's case and process his paperwork.
I met quite a few creepy officers in that job.

(19,326 posts)WTF? The US military culture appears to have become a "wink/nod, rape is ok" zone, and they
just can't help themselves, no matter how ugly it gets.

(53,661 posts)I'm confused at the 'held' on 'unsecured bail.' Meaning he is in custody now, but will be released without providing any security for getting out?

I'm beyond disgusted.

(7,403 posts)And the Air Force seems to have a lot more problems with this than the other branches of the military.
I have a grand nephew that 2 years ago joined the Navy. We are friends on Facebook. Back then he was a pretty normal 19 year old that wasn't quite sure of what he wanted to do in life so he joined the Navy. He rarely posted anything political but showed family Democratic leanings. Two years later he is a tea bagging, sexist gun nut. Not sure if this is a result of Navy indoctrination or if it is the people he hangs around with. He has on more than one occasion used Brietbart dot com as a source as though that is a trusted source. His older brother has more than once posted "where did that come from because you weren't brought up that way". I once posted "you know that is extremely sexist, don't you" in response to one of his posts and one of his female friends clicked "like" to my post. I hope the message starts to get through to him before these views get too hardened. But something is going on in the military culture that needs to be turned around.

(13,133 posts)Rank is sometimes made by underhanded cheap shots so if you see a Colin Powel or a dude like this in the ranks do be surprised. It's all about making the pieces fit and has very little to do with making peace.
If Obama was smart he would make the persons two commands above this sicko pay for this outrage because this should have never happened
