Top Republican ‘Fairly Satisfied’ With White House’s Account Of Benghazi

Source: TPM

SAHIL KAPUR 10:24 AM EDT, WEDNESDAY MAY 8, 2013

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Ranking Member Bob Corker (R-TN) said Wednesday that he's "fairly satisfied" with the Obama administration's account of events that led to the deaths of American diplomats in Benghazi last year.

"We need to know were these people culpable or not. If they were, why are they still on the payroll? Other than that, I've been able to read all the cables. I've seen the films," Corker told MSNBC. "I feel like I know what happened in Benghazi. I'm fairly satisfied."

He cautioned House Republicans to be "respectful" if they probe the issue further.

"Look, if the House wants to have hearings," he said, "I hope they're done in a respectful way and hopefully it will shed some light on what happened."

this. Every time the right wing republicans cry Wolf, the Media gives them a voice. The Media is to blame for keeping this going just as much as the rightwing extremists in the Republican Party. They had hearings and did an investigation. This Darrell Issel and Chaffetz has done this before with other hearings. When is there a point when the media and others going to question the creditabilty of the persons crying Wolf and why they are heading these offices. When is there a point when it becomes abusive? They are wasting time and taxpayers dollars, when there are more important matters for this country to deal with. As far as I'm concerned, anything coming from this Republican Party should be discounted. As far as I'm concerned some people in that Party has no business in Congress with their rightwing agendas. Why would anybody in the Democratic Party give them the time of Day? I would say the same to these Media Pundits everytime they bring it up. I'm just tired of listening to their garbage false accusations! If I was a Democrat, I wouldn't even attend their stupid hearing!

I wasn't a Democrat, I didn't mean to. I'm a Democrat and voted for President Obama twice. There are two Parties run this country. I think it is time for the Democratic Party to put the other party on ignore period, because they have no credibility. I'm one of those Democrats who have come to the decision, we should not compromise with this Republican Party at all. I think the course this Democratic Party should take is try to convince the American people the Republican Party is corrupt. I think they should be annihilated. The sooner, the better for this country. All they do is obstruct and make allegations about cover ups. While the Democrats play this turn the other cheek game for the good of the country, that is not what the Republicans do. They turn the other cheek on voting rights, Domestic Policy, Foreign Policy and everythingelse when the Democrats have legitimate issues. Look at what they did with the filibuster issue and the lies about Iraq. Look at how they let the Republicans off on the Torture issue. The Democrats in Congress need to grow a pair.

regarding anything to do with National Security.

Ask him why, after 9/11, the worst attack on America civilians ever, he did not demand investigations.

Where was his outrage then, and why is his outrage almost limitless now?

The media will allow that clown to make any allegation he wants, and not question his motives in the slightest.

You gotta be kidding. Corker is from the "You Lie!" party. I'm sure he had to look up the term "respectful," and even if he has managed to figure out the concept, I'm VERY sure he hasn't imparted any enlightening information he may learned to his fellow Republicans.

secrecy and national security and intelligence considerations.

Corker is saying he knows what happened and Republicans should tread lightly because they might be stepping into quicksand on Benghazi. That's my feeling.

Corker makes the point of saying he has read the cables. He knows whatever really happened, and he doesn't want Republicans putting themselves in jeopardy or putting the US into a problem.

That's how I read it.

Republicans are always idiots, but Benghazi may well be a can of worms best left closed seems to be the view of those in the know.

I think that Corker might well have been referring to Hillary Clinton and the top military brass.

He knows that Hillary can run intellectual rings around every Republican member of his committee, and can embarrass the hell out of them a lot worse than they could ever do to her. She isn't (presently) a candidate for anything and is retired from the Senate and the State Department. These hearings serve no other purpose than to harm the administration. Republicans are usually chicken hawks who "support the troops" as long as they don't have to join them. So they "respect" the military, especially the southerners among them, who come from economically depressed states where the military is often the only alternative to unemployment. So they won't want to seem as disrespectful to Generals, and can't do anything to Hillary, who at this point is nothing other than a civilian.

So as not to be seen as boors and bullies, I think Corker wants his fellow Republicans not to step into the trap of charging, all guns blazing, into a battle where the only enemy present is the one they see in the mirror. He probably senses a potential trap here, and is issuing a coded warning to fellow Republicans not to step into it. Considering who his fellow Republicans are, I think they will not only NOT avoid stepping into it, I think they'll charge right in, full speed ahead.

Mr Pickering had to say and I'm satisfied. I think people have to consider the sources of the allegations. Issell and Chaffetz are nothing but rightwing hacks. I wouldn't pay any attention to someone that was accused of car jacking anyway. As far as I'm concerned, those two have no business in Congress.

Obama or Clinton, and major negatives for the GOP for looking like nitpicking bullies who will do anything to avoid passing important laws and instead, spending time fiddling around and trying to play "Gotcha." Tread lightly, this issue could be a snake that turns on the GOP and bites it in its well-fed ass.
