Trial date set in Iowa court case against Michele Bachmann
Source: Des Moines Register
A trial date has been set in an Iowa lawsuit alleging that Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., stole and misused an e-mail distribution list maintained by an Iowa home school group during her failed 2012 presidential campaign.
This morning, the seven-day trial in Heki v. Bachmann was scheduled for May 14, 2014, court records show.
Also this morning, Bachmann, a Minnesota congresswoman, announced she will not seek re-election in 2014. She said in a videotaped message that this decision was not impacted in any way by the recent inquiries into the activities of my former presidential campaign or my former presidential staff. She has maintained she did nothing wrong.
A 12-page Polk County lawsuit filed last July alleges that two Iowans, Barbara and Richard Heki, suffered severe emotional distress and loss of current and future business opportunities after two unapproved emails were sent from the Bachmann for President campaign to members of the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators (NICHE).

(18,421 posts)She's been caught by the short-hairs.
She'll plea out, but she may fight. In any case, she's lawyered up.
We may have heard the last from her.

(8,377 posts)in full on "Get the Black President" mode bragging about her efforts to vote again Obamacare 30 times.
That surely did not sound like a person giving serious thought to retiring. If this Iowa court case was not the reason for her sudden about-face, what was?
My guess is that she was hoping for the case to be thrown out, and when it was scheduled for trial right at the time that her next campaign would be firing up, she decided that would be enough to cost her the election considering she only won in 2012 by 4000 votes.

What we will see is a calm cool corporate type surrounded by corporate lawyer types.
This is not Paul Revere riding into Polk County to warn about Obama death panels. This is serious stuff and if she isn't on her best game she might get... her wrist slapped?

(60,536 posts)she's guilty and hoping whatever LE she's dealing with, will favorably view her today's announcement. An OP, a couple of weeks ago, reported she was trying to cut a deal on the Iowa charges

(60,536 posts)the deal may all ready be cut on certain charges; if she announces she won't run again, she won't be charged with a certain charge or two and forced to resign. The trial is scheduled to begin next year, at election time too.
